New Mobo and CPU = Fresh Install of Vista?

Upgrading from a 478 socket Mobo P4 to a Athlon 64 AM2 and new Mobo.

Simple as ripping out old Mobo and connecting existing H/D, or will I need to so a fresh install to my SATA hardrive?

you can jsut plug you hdd with your existing windows in, but you will be plagued by constant problems until you put a fresh windows install on

Fresh install without a doubt.

You can just plug the hard drive in, depending on chipset it *may* boot into windows. But, backup before you upgrade and do a fresh install.
