hey guys,

currently investigating what is holding back my system..if it is the motherboard, if i buy a new one and transfer my SSD and HD to it, will it still work ok? do i need to reinstall windows? or need a new license or what?

thanks guys,
RTJ

if you got to settings then about and look at youre product id you should be able to tell if its OEM or retail.

Ive managed to activate OEM before on a new board it was through phone activation
last time I had to do this was W7 I ended out talking to a customer support and I said the old board was dead.

its OEM. does that mean if i change motherboards, will i have to do a full reinstall of windows 10 or will it boot up and let me enter a new activation serial key?

its always better to do a fresh install but you can try just changing the drive over. I did this when I first got my msi board and it booted up ok but after a few days I did a fresh install.

Hey guys,

Played a comp game today and my frame rate was averaging 90! 90! Something is wrong somewhere. Could it be I need a better motherboard for my fx8350?

what is youre complete spec? have you overclocked the cpu?
have you ever run 3d mark to see what you score or even run unigine valley benchmark?

what game were you playing? with what settings?

the board is an older chipset the newest is 990fx this may be holding the CPU back a touch

i have (for a short period) gtx 1070, 16 ddr3, 120gb ssd, 1tb hd.

it was on cs, i have been on youtube, and that card should be getting 400-500 fps easy..so im baffled

RTJ

what monitor do you have? do yo have vsync on in the game settings?

ive not got the game so cant even tell you what I get with the 970

no, my cpu is overclocked to 4.3ghz

is this a decent board? - ASUS AMD AM3+ 970 PRO GAMING AURA 4

if i bought a new board im right in saying that i would need a new activation code for that mobo?

RTJ
the 990fx chipset is the best for AM3 I personally wouldn't be looking at another AM3 board though.

for the game your playing your wanting a cpu with a strong core.
I would be looking to build an intel board and cpu.

even if you wanted to do it on the cheap build an 1150 system up you could still use your own DDR3 ram and get a 2nd hand board and cpu

so a new board would not help with my woeful FPS on my 1070?

for what ive read I wouldn't think so Im afraid.
the 8350 though it is a good CPU for multi core tasks it is a bottleneck for newer cards.

Personally though I wouldn't rush to get rid of it I would build a newer system around it.

I know when I went from my 8350 to my i5 4690k I saw an increase of FPS in a few games but also noticed my games ran smoother.

My lad still runs my old 8350 with an Asus crosshair formula z 990fx board and it still is a capable system but it doesnt match the i5.

If you wanted you are welcome to pop down and try the 1070 in my lads machine and see if it runs any better on the newer chipset

thanks mate, you saved me some money as i was going to try a new motherboard. will stick with the current one then.

thanks for the invite, much appreciated but i think it will depress the hell out of me knowing a intel will smoke the fx and i will have zero cash atm to upgrade

Just thought if you wanted to try it on a newer chipset board still running an 8350 to see how it performs your welcome to pop down as you say your not far up the road from me.

would be interesting to see if the newer chipset would make a difference on how the cpu can perform.

I know when I upgraded to the 990fx chipset it did give me improvements but im just not sure how much as it was a while ago.
