Okay the current gaming rig i have is in my sig. I can either get a C2D 1.6ghz, new mobo, and 1gb of DDR2 ram. Or i can get a new AGP Graphics card.
Which would i benefit from more, bearing in mind that my budget is £110 for the graphics card? I play games like BF2142, CSS, CS:CZ, COD2, and WoW

Thanks for your input

Well how well does your current rig play the games that you play now?

Yeah it plays them fine. However, when i played the demo to Dirt i got like 3-4 fps on minimum settings. However, i think this is because of my graphics card. And the cpu mobo and ram upgrade would be £120

I'd probably get a cpu/ram/mobo combo instead of a new card, you could use it. Preferably a c2d, 2gb ram and a mobo like the Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA. Could then just save up for a while and then get a 7600 GT or something for £65 ish, PCI-E and get a huge boost to graphics.

So you have £120 just for CPU/mobo/RAM + the £110 for GFX?

Then I'd go for the Asrock 4core VSTA + E2160 + 1950pro 256mb PCI-E and just reuse your current DDR, although 2gb is still recommended.

No no noo i have either £120 to get a CPU/Mobo and ram OR £110 for just a graphics card. If i get the CPU/mobo i need to reuse my 6600 256mb AGP card.

id go asrcok board and c2d cpu

get another 50 posts and this could be even cheaper on members market

Dont bother until you can spend some more tbh. no point really scrimping now, you'll need to upgrade again quite soon. If you get a C2D then you cant reuse the graphics as its AGP and the C2D boards are pci express. Either just upgrade the graphics as a temporary solution, or dont bother yet :(

The Asrock one i'm thinking of getting at the end of august supports C2D/quad core intel and PCI and AGP.

If you are confident that you will be keeping that mobo for a while then I'd just go for the 1950pro 256mb AGP card. Nothing improves the gaming performance more than upgrading the GFX, unless it's severely limited by other components. Your CPU should be able to handle it although a bit of oc will help a lot.

Yeah. Thanks very much

I upgraded my AGP system (see sig) not long ago, I dont care what people say about it being better to go to PCI-E I didnt want a new system. Ended up getting 2gb ram (from 1gb) and a 7900GS (from a 6600gt), games are now fun again ;D

How does the 7900GS Compare to the ATI X1950pro?
And did u see a big difference in games when switching?

No idea about the ATi card, didn't look in to it just saw there was a AGP 7900GS released and went for that.

Well my 6600gt was only 128mb (I play at 1680x1050), the 7900GS is only 256mb but I still noticed a big improvement in games. I got my memory a few days before and was able to bump my CNC3 settings from low to medium and it still ram better than "low" - playing at 1680x1050, and with the 7900GS I can play with everything on high.

Oblivion is now playable too, same with call of juarez - played COJ in a 1024 window before and it was still jerky!

Soon after I saw/bought the 7900GS a 7950GT came out with 512mb! but it was about £50 more, although even though people will say I am crazy I would have bought that instead if it was available at the time.
