New Mobo CPU RAM

Hi,

Unfortunately my CPU and/or Motherboard are screwed, so I'm looking for an upgrade (current PC is in sig). Typical that it gets really bad just after Black Friday, but I can't wait until Boxing day :(

I'm a bit out of touch as I've not bought any core components for a while (except GPU).

Currently looking at i4790K with UD3-BK.

Only thing is, which RAM? There seems to be loads of makes I've never heard of (always bought Corsair in the past) and I've no idea what speed to go for, or how to decide. I'm looking at getting 16GB.

I've got a Noctua NH-D14, so will be stuck with low profile RAM. Not sure I will need any wild overclocks with that CPU, not sure how that effects the speed these days.

Not too fussed about getting the cheapest, but don't want to spank money for the sake of it, the cheapest might be fine.

Recommendations would be welcomed, thanks for any help.

are you not able to grab a cheap x58 board for your current cpu?

maybe check them section or get a second hand 1?

Thanks for the recommendations. Is there any point in getting faster RAM than 2133, or is it just for pushing the overclocks?

Also, will my Corsair 1600 work if I want to try and hold out for the sales?

EX58 boards seem to be holding good value atm due to the XEON thing, and I don't really want to risk buying something to then be stuck having to sell it again (I'm super lazy), but the thought did cross my mind. Also, I've got permission from the wife to upgrade, because it's meaning Plex crashes :p

Your current ram will work fine with the proposed new build.

Faster ram works well with Haswell, just look at the the pricing nearer the time, if there is something for a few pounds more and faster then have a look but don't to mad :p

Didn't anandtech run a benchmark session with ram speeds with the conclusion that it makes next to no difference from a performance point of view?

e: had a quick look and can't find it
