Not sur eif this is the right lace to put this but here goes. I currently have a 2 disk sata raid stripe on my nforce3 based mobo, my new pci-e nforce4 board is on route and I just though about the whole installation process.

Should i be able to setup my old raid on the ne wboard with no bother. The raid is currently split into 2 logical drives 80 boot partition and the rest is a backup/mp3/image files etc dump, can i setup the new machine so it picks up these drives straight away and thus just flatten the small partition for windows.

Ok - Forgive me, but you are entering a world of pain.

It is very unlikely that it will work by just swapping the drives over (although you might get lucky) as generally RAID arrays are tied to the RAID controller they were created on.

My advice is very simple;

Back it all up with a reputable tool like Ghost or Acronis, test your backup and then do a complete re-install with a newly formatted RAID setup.

Cheers Walter just what i didnt want to hear :'(

I have had a thought, i could back it all up to a second pc i have, although it would take several hours as there is a lot of information on there its a garunteed method of keep it safe.

Oh well... c'est la vie
