I was wondering if there was a way of installing new mobo without reinstalling windows 7, as I have everything I need on this OS and don't feel like completely re-installing everything.

thanks.

The last time I did this I got the blue screen and I couldn't get back into my original instillation. I think its best to back up you files and try it, like Thereaperguy has said it 'might' play ball.

Windows 7 and 8 do seem pretty good at being able to be swapped over. Either way I think I'd prefer a nice fresh clean installed without unnecessary drivers etc.

Agree with shadow_Boxer, I'd try it but most likely reinstall anyway. However if you can get into windows you could simply strip out every driver you can find and put on the replacements just in case.

Clean install is always best and typically when you replace a major component it's a handy time to get it done.

I did a full system rebuild, New Mobo, New processor, (different chipset from X58 -> Z77) New graphics card, New ram same HDD.
Windows booted first time, detected most drivers and ran fine.

I ended up doing a reinstall about 3 weeks later any ways to get maximum performance and get rid of everything that wasn't needed.

Windows is designed to tolerate hardware changes and 7/8 are pretty damn good in that regard. You should still backup first however.

I also have a question on MB replacement - with an OEM version of Win 7 64 bit will I be able to reinstall it on my PC if I change MB? I have the original disk and licence code.

Is a MB change considered by Microsoft as an entirley new/different PC and therefore invalidating the single OEM licence?
