New mobo questions

Looking at getting myself sorted a new PC to build up and had a few questions about what motherboard to get.

I was initially looking at the Asus Rampage Formula with 4Gb (2x2Gb) Corsair DDR2 Dominator PC2-8500 ram but then that got me wondering if I'm doing right by getting DDR2 ? ?

For a bit extra I could get something like the Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6 with 4Gb (2x2Gb) G.Skill PC3-12800 DDR3.

Would I get any more performance from the DDR3 ? ? I don't mind paying the extra price if there's more performance/stability etc as I usually make my systems last 4 or 5 years brfore replacing them.

I have read in a few places that the X48 chipset/motherboards seem to run better with DDR3. Anyone shed any light on this ? ?

I was looking at using a Core 2 Duo E8500 CPU.

If you spend more money go for Rampage Extreme. you will get more performance over DDR2 but not in a big number. But if you really want you rig last 4-5yrs I think you should wait for Core i7 and X58 chipset, its just round the corner.
