I purchased an Asus P5Q Pro from the B-grade section (with an E5200 and 4GB OCZ) a few weeks back. Unfortunately the blasted thing wouldn't work, It wouldn't post, it wouldn't beep and I couldn't get any signal to my monitor. I asked for it to be RMA'd, I was given a code and a link to an intel page which detailed the things that weren't covered by the warranty. One of the things was bent pins:( and so I checked my CPU only to find two bent pins out of place. I phoned around the local computer repair shops only to be given crazy quotes like "yeah we can fix that for £65+VAT+Labour costs". So basically I'm now looking for a basic replacement, £50 and under. Is the Asus P5K EPU any good? I really can't afford anymore than that 'cos I had originally planned it to be just a cheap upgrade (coming from an old P4, 512MB o' RAM).

Any suggestions would be welcome

Okay, I've tried to bend the pins back into place, but it still looks odd. The top of the pin that (i think) makes contact with the CPU are aligned with the rest of the grid though, so I don't believe it will make too much of a difference.

Tried Booting it up and still got nothing. I managed to find an old buzzer from another computer and i'm finally getting an error code message. 1 long beep followed by 3 short beeps. I'm still getting no signal to the monitor.

Any suggestions?

I heard that the P5Q series doesn't work when it is hooked up to a VGA monitor. Is this true?

Video (EGA) Display Circuitry? I don't understand, is that to do with the monitor or the graphics? it can't be the graphics though, 'cos I have two cards and they are both functioning fine.

1 long and 3 short beeps could also be a "Conventional/Extended memory failure". Is that the RAM? I haven't a bloody clue.

What I want to know is, if the bent pins were causing the problem, is there a beep error code for this? like a CPU failure code?

Either way I've chickened out and brought an Asus P5K from the B grade. I'd still like to get to the bottom of this though.
