I currently have a Netgear DG834GT Modem router but it only works on the b or g wireless networks but no N support. I really want to up my wireless to N as my laptop and the Xbox can both handle it.

Is it worth me getting a new Modem router or just a new router and use my current DG834GT as a modem only?

Second question I am also thinking of getting some home plugs, for various reasons, if I just got a new router would the cable come from the modem to the home plug or from the router to the home plug (if that makes sense)

I'd get a cable router that'll provide the wireless capabilities you want. Configure it as a wireless access point for now, and have it available to work as a full router if you ever get a FTTC connection.

Anything on the LAN (including Homeplugs) needs to be connected to the LAN side of the network's router.

Any suggestions as what to get if i went down this route?

Anyone else got any thoughts on which would be better new modem router, new router only, cable router??
