Hey,

I've been using a wallmounted 55" 8k Samsung TV as a computer monitor for the last 10 months. It died, and so I've purchased a stop gap 32" LG £300 VRR/144hz monitor which I've started to appreciate over the 60hz TV. Samsung have just authorized a full refund and now I'm stuck wondering what to buy out of the £1500. (I'd get a replacement 8k as it was wonderful with the right games but windows scaling and software text size was something I just couldn't get right)

Wants:

120-144hz refresh. I have a RTX3090 and want a compatible VRR.

38" 21:9 or 43" 16:9. Not interested in ultrawide 49" double width 27" 1440p monitors.

Don't want FALD. Prefer edge lit, but one which can do good black levels.

HDR 1000 or HDR600min.

Tempted to go OLED 49" but the usage is split 50% desktop music DAW/net fiddling and gaming. It'd be burnt in within a year with Cubase mixer or something.

Looking around at monitors is leaving me a bit bewildered. Every monitor I search comes up with an issue, such as black smearing, poor black levels, no HDR, 60hz etc etc.

Surely there's a decent monitor out there which I've missed and actually available to purchase?

Any ideas?

I find a lot of “professional” reviewers do indeed state poor black levels. However, to them it’s purely a numbers game when I’m fact in real world use black levels are perfectly good.
Having just bought the 34 inch model I was concerned about black levels, especially compared to my VA but when actually using it and gaming I don’t really notice a big difference.
HDR is a fair enough criticism however anything less than HDR1000 is always going to get labelled as poor in comparison. I have read of people who are quite happy with HDR600 although they’ve most likely never experienced 1000.

Yeah, just been looking at the FV. Looks like its based on a Samsung Q70T 43" TV.

It's basically a tossup between the FV43U and a LG38WN95C.

decisions decisions.
