Hi all,
I'm in the process of putting together a new PC - including a 2080TI, i9 9900k etc.
My dilemma is what Monitor I should upgrade to, I'm currently using a 27" 1440p 60Hz, IPS panel. It's good, but I wont be getting the best for my new PC if I don't replace it.
The games I play do not tend to be fast paced Online FPS - TF2 is the only game that fits into this category. I play a lot of GTA V, Wildlands, Just Cause, Assassins Creed, Truck Simulator, Two point Hospital type games. From my research I believe a bigger, 4k display would benefit these the most - especially with a 2080ti to properly hit and maintain 60 FPS at this res.
Screen tearing really irks me so after a lot of reading I'm pretty set on a G sync Monitor so I can do away with Vsync (GTA V doesn't seem to play nice with this, it sometimes locks the FPS to 30 randomly)
I'm not super keen on a 21:9 screen, I know this would be a pretty sweet halfway house, but it also appears 21:9 screens I would consider (any that have at least a 1440 vertical pixel count and 120Hz) are outside of my budget (£700). Unless there are any contenders I have not found that fit this bracket. Also worries around compatibility with older 16:9 limited games.
Sadly I do not have the budget to buy the £2000 4k 144Hz monitor recently released, so it is a compromise in either resolution or refresh rate.
I am considering one of the 2 following options:
Asus RoG Swift PG279Q
Same size as I have currently, but higher refresh rate. I have never played at anything above 60Hz so I don't know if this would really be as beneficial as people claim - especially as I am not playing competitively. With a 2080ti I would really be able to take advantage of this if it makes as much difference as I have read.
Acer Predator XB321HK
32", 4k, but only 60Hz. I am leaning towards this one due to the increase real estate on the screen size, the better resolution etc. The only 4k display I have used was a test station at work with a 43" monitor, no time for gaming and so big it gave me a headache. So can't really judge this one either.
The 4k screen I tested at work was setup to effectively split it's display into 4 x 1080p displays so I couldn't even use it like a 4k display properly. How do people find day to day use at this resolution in terms of browsing etc Does Windows scaling make it more practical?
Would appreciate feedback from people who have used both types of displays and have a preference, particularly for non competitive gaming. Essentially, what choice would you make?!
Many thanks in advance.
