Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my monitor and have found a few but my research has thrown up a few questions.

I'm looking at the following monitors:
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/vx2770smh-led.html - about £200
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/aoc_i2757fm.htm - about £220
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2713hm.htm - about £400
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/viewsonic_vp2770-led.htm - about £500

What I'll be using monitor for:

Movies, gaming (not serious gaming but I do play FPSs), web designs and coding.

Now the more expensive two (the last two) sound perfect apart from the input lag times of around 22+ ms. Looking at TFT Central, they give it a 'class 2' which advises caution for FPS gaming - just how noticeable would that really be? I'm no professional gaming so it's not about mastering the game so to speak, I'm more worried about ghosting etc. Would I really notice that with the more expensive monitors?

The cheaper ones sound good with lower input lag but the lower resolution is my major concern - I'd really like the bigger resolution as I've heard that 1080p will not look anywhere near as good - should that be a concern as well?

EDIT: One last question - I currently have one monitor a good distance away from my computer and connected with a 5m VGA cable, that's the same thing I'd be using for these monitors - would that be good enough or would the monitors really suffer in screen quality? My current 'monitor' I'm referring to is actual a Bravia TV so it looks rubbish anyway, so it's hard to gauge whether I'd really notice using a Display Port over VGA for example.

Currently I'm leaning towards the Dell but I don't want to drop £400 if I won't be 100% happy with gaming/ghosting etc.

Any advice would be great, thanks!

I've been looking into getting a new monitor too. Done loads of research and reckon I may go for the vp2770-led.

I tried out a u2713hm and the backlight bleed was truly shocking! The replacement monitor wasn't much better. Still waiting for my refund from ocuk several weeks later....

Thanks for this, had a Google and this is a big worry. I'd hate to have to send a monitor back.

The VP2770-LED is definitely a little more than I want to spend but I can't find any monitors on par with these two at this price point so I may go for it in the end.

Any more suggestions would be great.

Yeh, the Viewsonic is a little more than i'd like to pay also. That is the only thing putting me off ordering one. But i'd rather pay a bit more than faff about sending back 5 ropey Dells in the hope of getting a good one.

The Dell is a great monitor if you do actually strike gold and get a good one though. Good ones do exist, allegedly....
