Im alittle worried my current rig will have some probelms supporting games in such large resolutions:
- 8800 GTS 320MB
- Intel core 2 duo E6750
- 2 GB ram
Which do you think is the best choice of the two?

The samsung has a "1920 x 1080 resolution" is there any downsides to gaming on this resolution, will I still be able to run it at a lower resolution along with games?
I dont mind running games in a windowed mode, until I upgrade my system...just which is the best monitor?
Many thanks.

Older games may not support 16:9 resolutions, but then again, some old ones don't even support 16:10.

If you can splash out another 40-50, have a look at the Dell 2209WA. It's an IPS panel, which is very nice. Out of those two though, I'd probably go for the samsung, for no particular reason.

Your graphics card may well have issues trying to run the newest games at high levels. You may notice you actually get better performance by running in fullscreen but with settings turned down. Windowed mode seems to add overheads for some reason.

For when you get around to updating the graphics card, I recommend something like a GTX260. I've got one, on a 1680x1050 res monitor, and I've been able to add antialiasing to some of the newest games - L4D2, Dragon Age, and using the nvidia control panel, i got older games like Star Wars: KoTOR running awesomely nicely.
