Hi All,

I went up to OCUK yesterday and purchased various things including a Iiyama ProLite E2710HDSD 27" monitor. Everything worked great so i put the boxes outside and started using my new kit. However, after 24 hours of using it i've noticed that the monitor is giving me terrible eye pain / headaches. I've played about with all the settings but not getting any better. Unfortunately it rained overnight so the box is now soaking wet. Although i've spoken to ocuk who won't take it back anyway because it's not faulty. What real choices do i have now ? It seems like my only option is to sell it privately and cut my losses, hoping that the next monitor i buy will be OK.

Has anyone else been in a similar position ? Maybe my eyes will just get used to it. Dunno but at the moment i can't sit infront of it for more than 15-20 mins before having to walk away :(

Do you where glasses?
when was the last time that you had your eyes tested?
it is kinda bug to be sat right in front of, but it might take time for your eyes to get used to it (which could damage your eyesight)

Either way it might be better to sell and get something a bit smaller - if you are sitting too close to the monitor

I do indeed wear glasses, had my eyes tested about 2 months ago. I'm sure it's the monitor, it's totally fine when im away from it or using a different monitor. When i go back to it, starts again.

If you'd bought it via the website you could've sent it back under the Distance Selling Regulations for a full refund, alas you didn't so you can't (something to think about though next time you buy a monitor :) )

I had the same problem when i bought my monitor (Hanspree 28inch), in the end it turned out to be as simple as adjusting the contrast levels and the brightness as out of the box my monitor was very very bright indeed. Having just typed that i have re-read your post and you have stated that you already messed around with setting, so in that case i recommend taking regular breaks of 5 minutes or so every half hour. Also, try sitting further away and make sure the room is well lit?

have you tried lowering the contrast or changing the colour settings? maybe its too bright for your eyes when you are sat so close, if not then you might have to sell it

Yes you have a very good point. The thing is that unless the shop was willing to let you unbox it and use it for an hour before purchasing, there really is no way of telling whether or not it will cause issues

How close are you sitting to the screen? 27" is very large for a desktop monitor and the luminance rating (due in part to the large and fairly powerful lamps) is very high. Couple this with high contrast, and if you're sitting close to the screen for extended periods (or even relatively short periods by the sound of it) it's no wonder your eyes are feeling strained. I am sure you have tried this, but I'd certainly turn the brightness down and disable dynamic contrast if you can find it.
