My brother has just got a new 19" widescreen monitor but in control panel you cannot select the correct resolution of 1440x900 all you can choose is1400x1050 and this doesn't look right the best you can get to viewable is 1280x800 but this is far from acceptable.

I thought it was something to do with the graphics drivers as he’s got a ATI X1800XT on vista 64bit with some old beta drivers so I downloaded and installed the latest drivers Cat8.2 but it still doesn't pick up the correct resolution as before.

Could this be a fault with the monitor itself I ve looked in device manager and its shown as a non pnp monitor but it didn't come with any driver disk or any software.

I then thought that it could be something to do with me having to use a VGA to DVI converter as the graphics card only has dual DVI ports but the monitor has both VGA and DVI outputs. I cannot test this though as I don’t have a dvi to dvi lead.

Any help appreciated im running out of ideas

Cheers

Might be worth having a look for drivers on the monitors website perhaps?

Could you not try the monitor on a different system as well, say your own? Might rule out one problem if anything :)

Probably won't change anything, but if you goto the Desktop properties, settings, then advanced, then troubleshoot, is the Hardware acceleration bar fully to the Right? Like I said might not do anything, worth a look either way.

Yeh ive tried looking for some drivers but cannot find any only a budget brand and was only cheap, the hardware accelration tab is fully to the right aswel it was fine on his old 17", I'll try it on my pc when I get home from work and let you know the outcome

cheers

No thats what i've been looking for ive even installed the ATI control centre thing and tried to create a custom resolution but it doesn't let you

Cheers guys I've sorted it out with a DVI cable instead of the VGA to DVI cable I was using before.

All working now dunno why it wouldnt work with the VGA cable though.
