I'm looking for a gaming monitor which will be it's main useage along with movies. I've been look to spend up to a maximum of £200 and have been looking at some different sizes and not sure which to go for.

Now, first idea was go for 19" which is was pretty cheap, or go for a 20" which is a bit more and has better resolution. Then i had the idea of 22" as i seen some going for good prices but i'm not sure which to go for.

LG L194WT 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor
BenQ FP91G+ 19" LCD Monitor
LG L204WT 20" Widescreen
Belinea 102035W 20.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor

Or possiblly a 22"

Belinea 2230S1W Pro 22"
Hyundai ImageQuest N220W-A 22"

Which of these monitors do you think would be best buy? Which is the best quality and has no ghosting issues, or if you can reccommend another.

What sort of spec do you have? There is no point going for a low res 19" TFT if you have a beasty graphics card :)

I would recommend a Dell 2007WFP, as I have 2 and they are great for me with gaming and movies, but its out of your price range.

Right now i've got a C2D system with a 7950GT, but plan to upgrade about Sept/Oct. But i'm not looking to spend a great amount thats why i considered the 19" but res kind of puts me off.

Hmm well your system is a lot better than mine (old P4 3.2GHz, 2gb mem, AGP 7900GS), and before I upgraded I had a 6600gt trying to run 3360x1050 on my 2 dells. However when I bought my monitors last august for £305 each I was thinking that I wouldn't be upgrading my monitors for atleast 5 years so didnt want to shoot myself in the foot with a low res.

Its up to you really, if your planning on getting a new monitor again in a year or so then I think the 20" Belinea 102035W will suit you, its meant to be quite good, it also has a MVA panel which is pretty good too :)

I upgraded my rig in Nov 06 and currently have a C2d e6300@ 3ghz, 7900gs ko OC, 2gb ram, i currently have the belinea 102035w and am upgrading to a dell2407wfp in june.

I regret not buyin a 24" in the firstplace (now i have a £200 tft which is going to be sold for less only 6 months down the line when i could have used the original £200 towards the 24").

I use my monitor for gaming (bf2142, CoH, CnC3, R6V- can run all these games at full res with full detail), general web use, watching movies + tv shows.

As for the monitor, it has no ghosting issues, great viewing angles (can sit 3 people infront and watch movies/tv with no probs). Only thing that initially annoyed me was the backlight issue (only visible when full black screen eg. windows startup screen/ loading screens) but other than that it is great.

The 22" monitors still have the same resolution size of a 20" monitor, so the dot pitch is higher on the 22", some people will say its not as "crisp" looking as a 20" but I cant say I have used a 22", or a 19" TFT appossed to 17" as they both had the same resolutions to (1280x1024).

Also I think all of the 22" range have a TN panel, which are generally faster but dont has as good viewing angles as the MVA/IPS panels. Also I think the colour isn't as good on a TN panel either.

My last TFT had a TN panel and in games like CS I would notice the screen would become "darker" if I moved my head to the left or right, but more noticable if I lowered my head which was annoying for sitting in my comfy low chair ;) but that was 4 year old tft.

I used to own a 194WT, it was great but after a while the low resolution got on my nerves, not enough space available on screen and the large pixels meant noticable screendoor effect when sitting close. Upgraded to the 204WT and its also great, only 1.1" larger diagonal but the size increase is not insignificant. The extra desktop space with the 1680x1050 resolution is awesome, plenty of room to breath, sharper picture and no more screendoor. The f-engine seems to work better on this one but I still don't like it and as such it stays off. Colour calibration out of the box had a considerable blue tinge to it where the 194 was quite neutral, color calibration sorted that out though. I would fully recommend the 204, for something in this price range it is really brilliant and viewing angle on the chungwa picture tubes TN film panel in it is not bad at all. The 194 is also a great unit if you can put up with the small size and resolution.

Thanks for that Clarkey :) .

And just out of curiosity how to LCD TV monitors compare to a normal monitors? Just as good? And hows the TV side of things.

I'm stumped as to which monitor to go for, i've decided 20/22 as i can't afford to stretch to 24. But the comments of the size of pixels on 22" is worrying me. Then theres the massive selection so i don't know what to go for. Budget being 200-230max now.

if your a gamer mostly i would go for the samsung 226 or 206 indeed the panel storys are alittle worrying and indeed the tn colour wise can look poor put next to a dell panel (none TN) but for the money you can pick them up for now. They cant be beat for gaming even the poorer C panels are up there of cause i am talking gaming.Photo editing etc guess its the S panel all the way if your lucky and get one.I would look into it the 20" on OCUK are ment to be fine panel wise.
