Hi i'm looking to get a new monitor and graphics card for my setup.
Current Q6600 + 2 gig.
XFX 8600GT.
Proview 15" tft.
I have a budget of £300 .
Not to bothered about the graphics card, but more power would be nice.
But i really do want a bigger monitor.

The general consensus for that price range is the 22" 2209WA which is very good with colour reproduction (it has an e-IPS panel - an order of magnitude better than standard crappy TN panels), excellent colour gamut, excellent viewing angles. And its hits your price point rather well, leaving space for a decent graphics card (4870 perhaps?)...

Agreed, a 2209WA and a 4870 - come in just on budget and are brilliant. If you can spend an extra £23, then this 4890 is a very sweet deal.

Dell 2209WA is 1680x1050 monitor which I would keep pretty much as absolute minimum sensible resolution for not entirely frustrating use.

But if you play old games then it might be worth of leaving graphics card update to later this year. There's surely going to be price changes when Ati starts releasing new generation cards in fall and Nvidia is also strugling to not fall behind... and on monitor side you can get monitor big enough to last for years even if you get uses requiring lot of resolution.

LG's 1920x1200 W2600HP would show HD material without any downscaling and will surely feel like TV. (image area size humble ~54x34cm)

and let us not forget the Intel Larrabee whenever it finally appears...

IMHO whatever monitor you buy should last a few graphics card updates, I would get the LG Flatron W2600HP for now and then a DX11 card later. You may have to turn some settings down on a few games, but it would be worth it in the long run.
