Hi

I'm looking to upgrade one of my monitors from a 24" Iiyama Prolite (1080) to something along the lines of 27" 1440 144hz. Do you think a AMD R9 390 could handle this upgrade in monitor? CPU is an AMD 8320 with 8GB RAM. It will be generally for games like Path of Exile and Mount and Blade 2, development/coding and the usual web browsing.

If it can't handle it, what should I reduce to still be able to upgrade the monitor? Wife needs an extra monitor whilst WFH so handing over one of my Iiyamas and want something better/slightly larger.

Looking at something like MSI Optix MAG272QR 27 Inch and looking to keep it below £300.

Any help appreciated.

I think the 8320 could end up being a bottleneck for high refresh rate gaming mate. If it's easy to run games then you might be fine but in general I think you should stick to 60Hz unless you plan to upgrade that CPU soon. Some good deals on 1440p 60Hz monitors are still around though.

Thanks! I do plan to upgrade to a Ryzen at some point, would it be worth buying the monitor and running at at lower refresh rate until I update the CPU?

Thanks guys. I thought the same but never really looked at monitors in this depth.

I'm looking out for a 27" 1440p 144hz now and just waiting for a good deal with one that's also in stock and then will look at the ryzen upgrade :)
