Hi

Im after another new monitor, ive had a few threads on here lately but would like some further advice please.

My Budget is £480 max so i was looking at the Ultrasharp U2410 but as its a lot of money i was also looking at the:

Benq XL2410T 24" TRUE 120Hz

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-050-BQ&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat=

Are there any know problems with the XL2410T,one review says it makes a loud electronic buzzing sound and viewing angles are not brilliant?

Im also open to other screens.

My main use will be gaming and movies with lots of desktop use aswell.

Well after 53 views on this thread and no replies :)

Ive spent the afternoon reading reviews and viewing and watching lots of you tube reviews and unboxing videos on quite a few monitors, ive decided to go with the Dell U2410 UltraSharp which will arrive this Monday.

Bl**dy good choice. I wasn't particularly enamoured by the XL2410T's image quality to be honest but I may have had a fairly 'bad unit'. Either way the U2410 is still one of my favourite 'entertainment' monitors and I look forward to hearing your views on it. :)

I hope so for the price it costs :)

Ive wanted this monitor for a long time now,the XL2410T did tempt me but ive read a few things this afternoon which has put me off.

The only bad thing ive read about the U2410 is the pink tinting on some models, i hope i get the A02 revision.:)

Well the ultrasharp has arrived and is setup, this is not a review just what i think so far.

The monitor is A05 revision not sure what this means compared to the A02?,i cant see any green or pink tiniting so thats good

First of all the stand is superb, im not using my wall mount anymore as the stand is more than enough infact better.

The build of the screen and stand oozes quality

The menu buttons are so user friendly and easy to use,the best ive come across with a monitor by far.

The picture is unbelievably good compared to what ive ever used in the past, the colours are so vibrant never seen anything like it before on a monitor.

My eyes are getting used to how bright the screen is,very bright :)

Ive currently got the screen on standard as i dont understand the presets that are :

Adobe RGB

SRGB

Im guessing these are for photo and video work??

The game preset i believe reduces lag to a really low rate haven't used this yet to comment

Im trying to get the brightness and contrast at a decent level, will take a few days to sort this im guessing.

Thats is really only been using it for 30 mins so this is just first impressions really.

3 Questions please to all you monitor experts

Do i need to calibrate with any programs?

Do i need to select 1920 by 1080 to watch HD in 1080p or will the default res 1900 by 1200 be ok for 1080p?

The monitor appears to be a tad darker at the right bottom of the screen not sure if this is normal for a ips screen?

Those presets are indeed for photo/video work. This is generally done within a certain gamut or 'standard' range of colours. Adobe RGB represents a broad gamut close to the U2410's native operating mode whereas sRGB represents a more restricted colour space that is much more commonly used at the moment. In terms of calibration I wouldn't fuss over this too much if you're not doing any colour-critical work. On a broad gamut monitor like the U2410 the software (games included) is lagging behind somewhat and you'll only get things to look as intended by using sRGB emulation coupled with some further colorimeter-guided OSD tweaking. The most important thing for your monitor and uses is that you are satisfied with how things look - and if you like lovely popping vibrant colours you're certainly in luck with the U2410.

If you want to set the contrast to an optimal value I would suggest looking at some familiar photos or desktop wallpapers and also using this website - http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php. Try to set the contrast as high as possible without too many of the black blocks disappearing. You aren't likely to see them all at any setting so don't worry but have a play and see how it goes.

As for the dark patch - it's not particularly abnormal although it's not a feature associated (or not associated) with this kind of monitor. Luminance uniformity is generally an issue with any backlit display of that size and even really exensive P-IPS monitors commonly share similar issues and have special hardware features dedicated to evening out the cross-screen luminance.
