Hi all.

I'm thinking about replacing my LG L225wtg with something newer and better.

My budget is about £150ish. Specs XFX 7870 black edition cards.

My old monitor is ok for general stuff but when gaming Alien isolation for example and the screen goes black there is a fair bit of leak through.

Maybe something a little bit bigger than 22", as my eyes are getting worse with age.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks and happy new year to all.

Thanks for the help.

Yes my current monitor is 22" 1680x1050 with a refresh rate of 2ms.

I was led to believe the refresh rate is important for gaming.
The reason for the new monitor is to enjoy my gaming more.

Thanks.

The 2ms refers to the response time, i.e. how quickly the pixels on screen can change. Anything below 2ms is probably going to be okay at 60 fps or less.

Refresh rate refers to how many frames can be shown per second can be shown on the screen, i.e. 60 Hz is 60 frames per second. Higher means a smoother video, at the expense of more graphics power requirement. 60 Hz is standard, although 144 Hz are available but require more powerful hardware.

You could get something like a 24" 1080p for about £90 - add more for additional features.

or something like a 25" superwide like this for £156?

or if you did want a 144 Hz (which you wouldn't necessarily be able to achieve, depends on computer hardware and the game), the minimum on OCUK is about £200.

No problem.

In my opinion, any of those would be better. They all use LED backlight, which means better colours and contrast.

They are also bigger, which you said was important to you. I personally wouldn't go any bigger than these ones, as at that resolution, the picture wouldn't be as sharp.

I'd first decide if you want a widescreen or superwide, then look at the specs of individual monitors.

Could you stretch to £200?

And will you be thinking of upgrading your graphics card anytime in the next 6 months/year?

I would recommend you get this

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aoc-...descreen-led-monitor-black-red-mo-030-ao.html

And then when you upgrade your graphics card with another AMD card you will have full use of Freesync, which makes a huge difference in games.

I know it's a little outside your budget, but, it's well worth it. The monitors recommend already are fine and will be an improvement over what you have already. But, for gaming, spend the extra £50 and get a 144hz monitor. Freesync is just icing on the cake.

YOLO!! :)

I think I'll probably go for the £200 AOC.

One more question about superwide, do all games takes advantage of it or will I be left with black bits either side of the game sometimes?
