I recently purchased the Dell S2721DGFA and when I put a black image and move my head side to side the screen glows. I went to Google the problem and it says something about blacklight bleed. I've never owned a IPS panel before is this something which is normal? I tried to take a picture but for some reason my phone makes it looks much worse.

IPS Glow (when you move your head) and will always look worse in a photo but that looks pretty bad backlight bleed in the mix also.

This appears to be IPS glow rather than backlight bleed. You can test it by moving your head. If the glow reduces when you are looking at it straight on, it’s IPS glow. If the bright spots are still there regardless of the angle, it’s backlight bleed. Most monitors will have backlight bleed to a degree.

Tests like this (black screen) are fairly meaningless. You should see how much it bothers you in real life use. Your camera will make it look far worse than it actually is.

I only found the glow to annoy me when using dark content... and it did annoy me. For anything else, it was fine / good.

Try using your monitor as you would normally and try out a few dark games like Doom or whatever. Don't go looking for the bleed and if you don't notice it, consider keeping the panel. Most (all?) IPS monitors have this to one degree or another and chasing the perfect panel will likely be an exercise in futility.

Of course some are worse than others, so this isn't me suggesting you accept a substandard product, only that you do a bit of research and decide on what is a realistic level of backlight bleed.

I'm having problems with the colours too. At first I thought it's because I'm not used to the colours on a 1440p display but there difnitely seems to be a problem. For example all the reds on my monitor look extremely neon bright yet I put a yellow next to it the colours looks very faded and musty. Is it my eyes or am I really not used to these different colours?

Try taking the photo in a room with no lights, turn off your back lights too, run the black screen youtube video(s) and try again but at least 2 metres from your screen. As said before it always looks worse on a mobile phone than it really is. Also you will find you need to adjust your brightness etc as it will probably be way too bright on defaults.

Also check your font on this forum its too small ! ;)
