Right so ive just ordered myself a new monitor, the samsung SM-226BW 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-050-SA

Their is a question id like to be answered is that i understand the monitor will need to run at 1680x1050 for everyting to look right? also with my current monitor i run games at 1280 by 1024 on a SyncMaster 193V Silver 19" LCD http://computers.pricegrabber.com/flat-panel-lcd-monitors/samsung/m/1031590/
and games generally run smooth, bearing in mind my pc isnt top end (AMD athlon 64 bit processor 3000+, 1GB of GEIL Ram, HiS Radeon x800 XL IceQ II Turbo http://www.guru3d.com/article/content/187/)

The main question i wish to know a answer to is that will this decrease my performance when playing games beccause the monitor demands a higher resolution ? (bearing in mind the main game i mostly play is WoW) a response to this would be much appreciated.

The answer is yes most definitely so i am afraid same
always applies to higher resolution when running games
naturally 1600-1200 will be less fps than 1024-768.
How big a decrease you will get i have no idea of though.

Yes most certainly i would recommend a 1950 pro 512mb but worth noting
you need a power supply capable of 28a on the 12v rail for these cards.

Also getting a further 1 gb of ram will boost your game peformance
no idea what board your on though so can't recommend.
ALl i know is £30 these days for even 1gb of pc 3200 ram.

this is basically what i would say are options for a new card
you could always get one a lot cheaper 2nd hand of course.
for your screens native resolution most people would recommend
a card with 320mb memory or more most would say a 640mb 8800 gts
but i think the 1950 pro 512mb would be cool at that resolution also
and worth considering.

£70-£90 ati radeon 1950 pro 512mb
£100-£180 ati radeon 1950xt geforce 8800 gts 320mb
£200+ 8800 gts 640mb radeon 2900 xt geforce 8800gtx/ultra.
No idea about the 8600 gt's and so on but i think i am pretty much right but defo
wait for other peoples opinions on this.

ha ha well my motherboard is a piece of **** Asrock 939S56 - m socket 939 PCI-Express http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=939S56-M at this moment in time cant really afford a new one, but g-card plus power supply is do-able i was maybe thinking of http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-070-HT&tool=3
not sure on power supply but would like to keep it under £200 quid if possible. as for RAM which would come at a later date, would i be better of buying a new 2gb different brand or keep my Geil Ultra X 1GB PC4400 Dual Chan DDR Kit (2x512MB) 550MHz (Cas 2.5 7-4-4) with Thermometer and buy another 1bg on top?

get this card from here cheapest price for this anywhere on the net
also the corsair 520 hx a lot of people have and recommend these 520 or 620 hx power supplies
they are brilliant and with 5 year guarantees however im not sure theres
a uk place to rma one so worth maybe checking this out.
The 512mb 1950 pro is almost right up there with an 8800 gts 320mb at your screens native
resolution so far better value only catch is you need a decent power supply.

Wow thats as cheap as chips :P one last thing when i do buy the power supply and g-card you recommended is their anything else i will need ? or will it be as simple as taken the old supply out and g-card and replacing them with the new ones ?

Many thanks for you help

I would recommend downloading driver cleaner
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745
after you uninstall your old card drivers run this application
and remove all ati drivers.
Then yes simply connect everything up plug in new card download latest
drivers and thats it.I would seriously consider adding another 1 gig of ram if you like gaming though 2 gig is pretty much essential these days for latest games.
But rest assured there's no better value graphics card for £82 than the 1950 pro 512mb.
Just make sure you get a power supply capable of 28a or more on the 12v rail though.
One final note wait until you get your monitor and see if you can live with
the performance you get though would hate for you to do an unnecessary upgrade.

NO SWEARING

Zefan.

That 3d card should be fine for WoW at that resolution.

I run CS Source at 1920x1200 on a 6800gt and get 50+fps constantly :)
