Now live in Scotland !
now that the vive is available from here and in stock im now in 2 minds to either get a new 4K 32In Gsync screen , a Asus 34in ultrawide or just wait on the monitor until newer ones come out at the end of the year . I did have 3 x dell 144hz Gsync but now down to just the 1 of them as a spare secondary monitor to the main monitor i very nearly bought . nit now looking at you tube vids and customer reviews i like the look of the Vive .

system

5960x @4.5ghz -1,2v

2 x 980ti sc @ 1500mhz

all custom loop WC with 2x 480mm rads with dual pump

16gb 3000mhz ram

1TB SSD

so system is good enough to run the vive and the 4K screen .

Do you have the space for a Vive?
I'd strongly suggest trying one first to see if you get on with it if you can.

I did and have put in an order. It does depend on what you want from it though.

racing games , not sure how much space is needed . my pc is in our bedroom and my desk is 2,5 meters wide but can be made into 3 meters wide and i have about the same behind me 8ft behind me where the bed is .

would really like to try it first yes as pc might then would need to be moved into the dining room that is used for my road bike and turbo trainer and that can be swapped over .

What will you use the most? I got the vive and now the Asus rog 34" and use it hell of a lot more that vive. Which was always going to be the case.

The vive is great and glad I got it but use it once a week at most

Get the monitor, the Vive will be gathering dust in a few months if you got one yet at the end of the day no matter what VR you get you will always need a monitor.

VR needs to be like a holodeck till it grabs my attention and we can get anything we want from a wall replicator. ;)

my only problem is when i come to upgrade the GPUs at the end off the year or new year with the 1080ti x2 with waterblocks on and by that time will have £1500 saved for them. now what if they bring out a 4K ultra wide 40in or bigger and i buy the 4K 60hz monitor now will i will regret it ?. i do have the dell at the moment but damn 27in is just to small for me and even though i like the immersiveness of the ultrawide the vertical space is also too small . i also understand that the Vive is basically new tech that needs to evolve at least 12-18 months and not a lot of games that i play (shooters , racing) that are VR ready. already seen folk having problems with dead sensors and power issues with the vive and it will be an expensive mistake .

then there is the case if i wait and that these new 4K 120hz Gsync monitors could be so expensive to start with.

so in theory get the 4K screen and enjoy it for 6 to 12 months and maybe longer and just wait for volta cards and have 4K 144hz 45in ultrawide at the same time in 2 years mmmmmm

catch 22 it is then .

In a similar predicament to you OP, I'm into racing sims too and want to upgrade from my 27" Rog Swift. I don't have a pile of space so the Vive is firmly ruled out. I've decided to go 34" ultrawide, I'm considering picking up a Oculus Rift to make up for the loss of 3D Vision which I find just brilliant for racing.

VR isn't there yet, in my opinion. Would advise you get a monitor.

All the other stuff you mention, well, that's the way Monitors etc has been since the beginning of computers. You buy something now, something better will be along in a few months. IF you are going to regret buying something, you will never buy anything.

You can't base your purchase choice on stuff that doesn't even exist.

I have an Oculus rift by the way.

going to leave the VR alone for a while and get the Acer 4K 32in once ive rebuilt the computer as I've stripped it to give it a good clean and modify it a bit as my pump failed an new pump not due direct from EK until after 22nd July so no rush. i do miss 4K and IPS . will just use the dell as spare side screen .
