Hi there,

Bought a new system from OCUK the other day and was a bit surprised to notice the GFX card has some different connections to what I expectedm 1 Display Port and 4 Mini HDMI.

Currently the monitors I have are DVI and VGA, so rather than swap the card i'm thinking it might be time to get a new monitor but a bit puzzled.

I'm thinking 24" widescreen to match my current primary one which is:

http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-L246WH-lcd-monitor

What I dont get is that the resoultion on the current one is 1920x1200. On that page i link it says a lower resolution but below says the one i'm using.

Any new monitors i'm looking at all seem to say 1920x1080. Now it would have been nice if they were both the same, but whats the reason that despite being the same size, this one has a slightly bigger resolution.

The second question is, with a budget of £150 can anyone recomend the best 24" monitor here at OCUK?

1920x1080 is a 16:9 resolution and is becoming far more common than 16:10 (1920x1200) Primarily because HD content is 16:9 (720/1080p) and it's 'better business' to sell this aspect ratio rather than make many different models....it's just cheaper.

The physical size in inches refers to the distance from the lower left corner to the upper right. A 1920x1080 monitor can have the same measured distance as a 1920x1200 but the final aspect ratio is different. That is - The 16:10 monitor will be taller but less wide and the 16:9 will be shorter but longer, both 16:10 and 16:9 will measure 24"s from corner to corner however.

If you do not want to change monitors you can convert either Display port or HDMI to DVI. It is possible to convert to VGA also but these are active adapters and usually cost a little more.
