Hey all, just bought a new monitor(comes today) .... An Asus VG248QE in fact.

I've read the monitor usually takes some calibration to get the colours looking great so ive downloaded a Nvidia ICC profile for the monitor from here >CLICK ME< im know how to install the profile but im a total noob at this stuff so my question is this.

Does a ICC profile actually pre-set things like brightness, contrast & colour etc? I mean do i just install the ICC profile and this fully calibrates the monitor?

Cheers.

The ICC profile adjusts what the GPU is doing, not what the monitor is doing. It has no control over things like the brightness and contrast controls on the monitor. That is why such profiles are provided with a set of suggested settings. The Reddit post you link to has some suggested settings - the ones you want to try with the profile are the PC Monitors Test Settings. The profile is actually taken from this (my) review and was designed with these settings in mind.

Also noted in the review is the fact that individual units vary. You should always set brightness according to preferences and on the VG248QE you certainly want to reduce this significantly whether using an ICC profile or not. The colour channels are something you'd have to adjust on a per-unit basis. So by all means try the suggestions in the review, but be prepared to make further tweaks.

Well i must say im really impressed with this monitor, the colours are amazing! Just gonna take some getting used to because in the 7 years i had my old monitor i had never ever calibrated it.The colours look really deep and vibrant.

Installed the Nvidia ICC profile in the link i provided and im using the PC Monitors TEST OSD settings as you(PCM2)suggested, Have digital vibrance set to 70 via nvidia control panel .... One thing though, i had to turn the red down to 93 as 100 seemed to give a very slight pinkish tint.
