New monitor recommendation.

Hi everyone.

I’m looking at getting a new monitor.

It will mainly be used for watching BluRay/Netflix/Sports and some gaming World of Warcraft, Obduction when released but thats about it currently.

I have several 3D BluRay’s lying around that I have never seen so I am considering that.

I am also considering a 29” Superwide.

My current GPU is a GTX560Ti in a Rampage Formula, would I need to upgrade the Graphics card as well?

The monitor is the most important and I have a budget of £300 for it.

So that gives us:

3D:

Superwide:

Which of those would you guys recommend, should I go Superwide or 3D and would I need to upgrade my GPU?

If I do could you recommend an upgrade. It doesn’t have to be the best, just an upgrade that allows me to use the new monitor, of course if it allows me to play the latest games then great. AMD or Nvidia.

Many thanks.

What do you currently have? Bear in mind that a 29" superwide is no bigger (possibly shorter) top to bottom than a 24" HD screen...

I'm relatively sure your GPU just isn't going to cut it for 3D, unless you're consistently getting 100+ fps at HD resolution?

Tbh... In your place, I'd replace the GPU and keep the monitor. What you've got is 1920x1200, which makes it taller than most 24s doing 1920x1080.

Going to 29" superwide at 1080p, I'm pretty sure you'd lose height in addition to getting less DPI and less vertical pixels, which sounds like a good way to feel like you just downgraded, even though it's a bit wider. The 27" Asus you linked is less pixels total and will be about 2.5" wider and 0" taller. IMHO, that's just not worth the money unless there's other things than size that are bugging you about the current screen?

If you definitely want a new one though, maybe a BenQ GW2765HT might suit for £300? Or an Acer Predator for the same price? IPS colours or TN speed, choose your poison based on what you'll do most and your need for FPS :)

...whether your 560 will power either of them at QHD reasonably, I'm not sure. WoW quite possibly, if you have a good CPU. Other games will depend on the game. I really doubt you'll persuade it to do 3D at good fps on any screen :<

Ok Thanks.

Doesn't seem much point in upgrading then.

I Just fancied a bigger newer monitor but no point wasting money.

Thanks again.
