New Monitor required - help please

Until this weekend I was running a dual monitor set-up consisting of:

Dell 2007WFP: 1680x1050 (widescreen)
Dell 2007FP: 1600x1200 (4:3)

With the 4:3 monitor flipped into portrait.

The set-up worked fine for my amateur, yet enthusiastic use of Lightroom (and the odd bit of general browsing and Excel - no gaming). But this weekend the widescreen display went pop, leaving me a screen down.

I'm instantly drawn to the rave reviews of the Dell U2412 (and 1920x1200 16:10 ratio), but the £230 price tag is putting me off, especially as the machine is not in daily use. It could go a week or more without being switched on.

I'm wondering if I should just pick up another 2nd hand 2007FP off eBay (£65) and run one in portrait and one in landscape? Cheap option, job done?

I've seen the talk of LG and AOC panels, but I don't know enough about them apart from comments about flimsy stands. Which don't worry me as I use desk attached monitor arms, so any replacement needs a 10cm VESA mount. Also, should I be getting a 16:9, 1920x1080 screen for Lightroom use?

Finally, how do the lesser Dell's stack up against the 2412? ie the 2312? any other Dell alternatives?

For what its worth, I do have a monitor calibrator.

Any help, thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.
