My old Viewsonic vx924 is on its last legs so I need a new monitor.

Current setup is a Q6600 Quad core, 8gb memory Win 7 6bit and a 1Gb Nvidia GTX 560Ti.

I do quite a bit of photography and want a nice sharp screen with good colour reproduction.

23 or 24 inch and what model?

Ah, in that case I would have a look at the Dell U2410 (review here) or the NEC PA231W (review here).

The Hazro HZ27WA (non-glass version) is also worth a look (review here). Though I would wait a week or two for some early-adopter feedback, as the glass version had some issues when it was first released - mainly to do with trapped dust, which should be eliminated with the absence of the glass.

You'll get a lot of recommendation for Dell, they are well worth looking at as they have a good warranty and are very good screens. The U2410 gets my vote if you want to use all of your budget, otherwise the U2311H is worthy replacement on a smaller budget. I've had one since Dec and have been very impressed with it.

Quick question about the Dell U2410.

I see from the product description the size of it is

Dimensions: 559.7mm x 493.0mm x 201.5mm

I presume the 559.7mm x 493.0mm is the size of the actual screen including the bezel and the 201.5mm is the width of the base of the stand.

Can anyone give me the height of the monitor when it is

1) lowered to its minimum height
2) Lifted to its maximum height

Might have to do a bit of adjustment to a shelf above my desk!

i lowered mine just now, the bezel is about 10mm off the base
maximum height: the bezel is 120mm off the base

im thinking of selling mine and getting a 27

Thanks al4x for taking the time to answer. When the Monitor is in its lowest position, how high is the monitor from the desktop to the top of the monitor and similarly when it is set to its highest position, how high from the desktop to the top of the monitor.

As you own one, any observations as to quality issues etc.?

385mm to the top on low
490mm to the top on high

i really like mine, the build quality is exception imo, the u2711 i have is exactly the same except in my case the u27 has a slightly more even panel, the u24 has the gentlest hint of yellow at the bottom when viewing a white screen, its very slight and i wouldnt have noticed had i not checked. thats a hit or miss thing in IPS panels, uniformity.

but the usb hub, card reader, stand, frame etc are top notch imo, its also extremely easy to adjust, it moves up and down on its own with no clips, its balanced, there are no bolts to tighten etc

As you can see they aren't that much different in size

The u2410 is the one with a dragon

Actually I use the 27 for gaming, (its why I have cross fire lol ) but I did use the 24 before

I never really had a problem with it but I dont play online out anything like that, I think there is a game mode on one of the monitors our both but can't recall

Its doesn't bother me but a above not a big concern for me
