I am currently starting to look at replacing my current 21 inch monitor and I am looking to larger and up the resolution as well I won't be using it for films so am looking to go hight than 1980 x 1020.

Would my current rig (i7 2600 + GTX 570) be sufficient to game at 2560 x 1440?

One of the screen I am looking at is the new Samsung S27B970DS. One of the reasons is that I currently have a Samsung SM215TW which uses a S-PVA panel and don't want a TN Panel.

Are there any other screens to consider other than the above Samsung or the 27 inch Dell?

I think you would need a better GPU really for that res to run things well...

Something like a 7950 or a GTX670 really. GTX580 at least.

I recently bought a Hazro 27 inch monitor from OCUK. I have to say I'm well impressed. It's an IPS panel - apparently the same that used in the big Apple screens but less than half the price (£400). It's 2560 x 1440 and looking at photos (and videos) the image quality is superb. Even the POST looks better on this monitor.

I had to wait to get mine but seems like they've plenty right now:
