Hi All,

Hope you are good on this fine Thursday evening.

After having a month old Philips 49inch QD OLED go faulty - currently awaiting Philips to do something with it after stating its broken. I'm after a new screen.

I've been thinking about a 32inch OLED something (Not Philips) or a LG C4 42inch. I'd appreciate your input cos I'm kind of torn between the two. Either way though, any of those will be better than the 27inch 1080p screen I've been using from work. A 5090 is very overkill at 1080p.

Thanks in advance.

The Alienware 32" 4k QD OLED is good. I can also recommend the 3423DWF if you wanted to go with a 1440p 21:9 aspect ratio, very good monitor too. Although the new version of this panel should be releasing at the end of the month with HDMI 2.1 and 240hz display with an upgraded panel.

The LG 42 is also good too, I think the latest one is 144hz, I've only owned the 120hz and it's ok but I prefer the higher refresh rate, plus it was just a tad too big for my setup. All depends on your budget and use case.

They're all decent for gaming, but for work I don't know. Some people don't like the lack of text clarity that you get from the WOLED / QD OLED panels, especially 1440p, which I can understand why but personally it hasn't bothered me and you can easily improve the clarity in various ways. As I predominantly just use my system for gaming and browsing, all those monitors are great!

Thanks for your thoughts.

I’ve got some Rainforest vouchers (£200 worth) would make the C4 sub £500. Which I think would be a steal.

But 42” is quite big, so I think a 32 would be more sensible.

if you search online theres the c4 42 for over £500

I would go for LG OLED. Prices went down and they are amazing for games. I'm selling my new 48" CX for £500, but C4 42" can be found cheap as well, I bought mine for £780.

Don't think you can get a better deal than the LG 42C4 at it's current price (check HUKD). I waited a while in the hope 32" OLED prices would come down but they never did, so went with the C4.

Saw you have a 5090, I've used a big 55" OLED TV as my main display before and HDR performance still destroys what I get from current monitors. So gotta decide if HDR is that important to you (to me it isn't) as it's only done correctly in a few games without manual overrides from Nvidia or Reshade involved, and in many games ruins the visibility and overall brightness I get vs SDR at default settings. For movies and other content though, was a significant value proposition vs an overpriced monitor.

The monitors major selling point is smaller size for most desks Display Ports + 165hz-240Hz options at 4K

Go for the C4 no monitor could come remotely close in value.

You get used to the size, my 43" already feels smallish.

How's the FO32U2P treating you? It's on the list, so your thoughts would be gratefully received.

Great display and future proofed with DP 2.1 and full bandwidth (DSR DLDSR + Custom resolutions) but DP 1.4 supports all that now also with a 5000 series GPU the latest 27" 4K monitors from 2025 are a bit brighter with the same settings.

Minor issue would be having all the burn in prevention features turned on does impact screen brightness, compared to the latest panels from 2025 (27" 4K monitors)

And compared to a good OLED TV as said before HDR performance is lacking, but what you lose in HDR you gain in FPS.

I think the monitors are overpriced brand new, but if you're like me and basically live on them, then worth the cost of entry :)

I spend a lot of time in front of a screen. Work and play. I'm a little concerned with the burn in topic but any static work related content will be on the works display.

I put all of the preventative features on for this reason + Pixel shift, I never hide the taskbar etc :D

But if you do, then you can get a much brighter display

Brave man leaving that taskbar there.
I've not had any OLED monitor I've owned for more than a year yet, but not had any issues with any of them yet in terms of burn in. I definitely prefer the 2024 onwards models though for text readability, it's a non issue for me now, but was an issue with the older panels 2023 or earlier.

Also considering switching to the LG Ultrawide at the moment, if that one interests you by any chance, only limiting factor is the curve + 165hz at native.

The new 5k4k panel, yes been looking at reviews on that. The curve is something to behold.. 165hz would be fine for me, hell I'm getting used to 60 again.
