Hi guys, my 2407 WFP has served me well over the years but it's now time for an upgrade.

I'm thinking of upgrading to 27" and having my old 2407 on it's end to the side, or maybe two 24", I'm not too sure...

What are the best 24" and 27" currently on the market for gaming and occasional photo work? Budget limit is £800 and I would prefer Dell.

If that's your budget then the world is pretty much your oyster.

I have used both the Asus PB278Q and the Samsung 27B970 (still have the Samsung) and they are both fantastic.

The colour reproduction on both displays is remarkable and they're top notch for gaming too.

I have noticed no ghosting or input lag on either playing Crysis 2, BF3, Far Cry 3 and F1 2012.

They both use PLS panels and although the Asus is described as a Matte finish it is more a "semi gloss" which produces excellent colours with minimal to no glare.

The Samsung has the full Glass panel much like the Apple Cinema display and although this causes a lot of reflection (if there is lighting directly behind you) it's colour reproduction is excellent.

Unfortunately I can't speak for the Dells as i have neither seen nor used one - although I understand the AG Coating is pretty aggressive.

I want to get me something that will last me the same amount of time as my 2407 which if I'm honest has been most excellent but is now showing its age. I must admit I had a glass sort of display on a laptop and rather liked it.

What's the difference between the U2713H and the U2713HM apart from the price? Are these the two I should be looking at if I'm wanting a Dell?

The Samsung, I'm not keen on the design at all.

I think 30" would be too big.

That's my dilemma, been looking for a new monitor to replace my 24" Samsung which I knocked off my desk, wanted to get a 27", but 30" has aroused my interest, but is it just too big.:(

I asked something similar last October re: my 2407WFP-HC.

The Dell U2711 is probably a good way to go. Review. Considering it was £900 when it came out it's a bit of a bargain.

Other reviews on the new Dell 2713's: U2713HM, and U2713H.

So to summarise, soon Dell will be stopping production of the U2410 and U2711 as they will now be replaced by the U2413 and U2713H respectively. These will be available along side the other recent models, the U2412M and U2713HM with the distinction being made based on specs and features. The U2413 / U2713H will be aimed more at professional users and more demanding requirements, while the U2412M and U2713HM will be more mainstream and probably more suited for an average user in most cases.

The U2713H review has everything you could ever wish to know about these monitors. The second to last section has a good comparison table of the 27" Dell models.

£500 for the Asus? For the same price the U2711 is a far better screen for colours. Maybe for gaming the Asus has the edge though.

That Asus looks nice, certainly nicer (aesthetically) than the Samsung.

So for me now it's the Dell or Asus. Is there a reason (apart from price) why I should consider the Asus listed above over the Dell U2713H?

Going by the tft-central review, it's slightly faster and has a bit less overshoot on motion. Depends if you're a serious gamer, as the Dell is better at everything else.

If it were me I'd stick with Dell. Either the U2711 or stretch a bit to the U2713H (not the HM it's a step down).

The U2713HM has hardly any overshoot (unlike the U2713H). Do you mean generic trailing/ghosting? The nice thing about the ASUS is that the grey to grey acceleration is configurable. Over a wide range of transitions there is little difference between the ASUS at its optimal setting (TF40) and the U2713HM, though. Serious gamers probably wouldn't be all that happy with either, but the occasional gamer should be absolutely fine with either.

In the interest of colour accuracy the ASUS is some way behind the Dell, especially since its native gamut is a bit beyond sRGB and it lacks sRGB emulation. It's a tough choice really as both monitors have a lot to offer. Personally I would favour the Dell for its superior handling of sRGB.

I've got the U2713HM and it's superb at what it's meant to do. My only gripe is the 60 Hz refresh rate but that's not a fault of the monitor of course, it's just me being used to 120 Hz for a long time. It just bothers me more than I thought it would. If you're 60 Hz now you are likely to love it, like I do. It's a superb monitor.

I'm buying the U2713H and a Titan.

Nice!
