Hi all, sorry if this has been asked before. But I am out of the loop when it comes to monitors there just seems so many. What would you recommend in the monitor world currently, budget is pretty open, and willing to spend well on the right thing. But also I do love myself a bargain haa.

Some of my friends have mentioned VA Panels and IPS and I don't really know what's the best. It's mainly for gaming and just general use.

Thanks for all that reply and once again sorry if asked way too many times.

Size preference would be the best starting point. There's typically no best, just best for certain jobs, accurate colours, instant response, and speakers or remotes. 4k is still expensive for many panels. Will you want gsync or freesync or both even, just in case? IPS is a good middle ground and lots of choice there too.

2560x1440 resolution most common in 27" models would be golden middle.
It offers OK good resolution for screen real estate to read web etc, there's good availability with lots of model choises and around £500 price level.
And in gaming it doesn't need the highest end graphics cards to get high framerates.

3840x2160 would offer more screen real estate, though it would need 32" size for those extra pixels to not sink into "finer print"/sharper image with increased scaling.
Unfortunately there's yet no idea of actual release dates of 32" 100+ Hz 4K models and even LG's 27" model has had only little availability since release last fall.
Though that LG is otherwise superb as high end gaming monitors with updated 27GP950 now adding HDMI 2.1.
Of course that higher pixel count per frame needs lot more GPU power to maintain fps or cutting down settings.
(or using upscaling, which would likely work well with pixel density in 27" size)

From different panels VA has the way highest contrast of all LCDs and best black.
Hence if you like dark room it has the way best looking image.
As downside it has the way slowest dark shade transition response times (known as "black smear") as rule and only couple models avoid that.
Also don't think there are 4K models.

IPS has normal LCD level contrast and can't do good black in darker room.
But it has long had very consistent response times and modern models fully match older TNs.
So if you prefer normal room illumination, good IPSes make for superb gaming monitors.

Thanks, guys for the advice, some great info there to go off. I have seen the Samsung odyssey range and they look pretty smart. I will keep my eyes open and keep having a look.

32inch seems a good size to go for by the looks of things, gsync and free sync seems like it's a must from what I have read, etc. Defo a shame about the lack of real 4k monitors at a good price point as of yet.

Trouble with 4K monitors you really need a beefy GPU to get them high FPS in the latest games

Maybe have a look at the Alienware 34" ultra wide AW3420DW
It maybe worth while waiting to see if anything new comes out as there meant to be a few new monitors coming out

But then again there always going be a newer & better monitor coming out

Worth noting that you don’t need a specific g-sync monitor if you are running an N ixia card. Most free sync monitors are now g-sync compatible and are cheaper than full g-sync monitors

The Odyssey range does have a large curve in them, something to think about with viewing distances. Not sure if all of them are the same, but i know at least when i was looking at one the curve was big on the 32".

OC does have many B grade monitors currently which they are taking offers on. See the deals forum at the top.

Good to know, I've just seen them in b grade section. How can I make an offer or is it simply the price listed and that's it I wonder?

I found the email haaa, one has been sent.

Sorry to hijack, but does the VA smear become much less of an issue if you mostly play slow games like flight sims and city builders!
If content is slow paced of course dark transition smear is less visible overal.
Though flight sim night scenario could show it.

So after an offer was submitted a few days ago, I landed myself the 32inch Samsung odyssey G7. Great condition everything included in the box. The software update was already implemented too. So far so good really impressed, maybe a bit more tinkering needed for full optimisation.
