hi my 19" monitor has just died so im after a new one probably a samsung but i dont want to upgrade my graphix card (nvidia 8800gt), whats the largest size monitor you would recomend.I use the computer for playing games mostly Eq2

I play games on my 27in and it's great, but its certainly not for everyone. 22-24 inch is a pretty sweet size for gaming and it won't break the bank as those sizes are very popular.

The 8800GT is a great card and will power most games happily at 1680x1050 (standard 22" resolution). When you start bringing it up to 1920x1200 (standard 24" resolution) it may struggle a bit with newer games. I'm not sure how graphically intensive EQ2 is, but as its a "well established" game then I can't see you having many problems at 1920x1200.

If you want a few monitor recommendations, then this 22" (Dell 2209WA) is awesome. If you want 24" (Philips 240PW9ES) then this one is even better. There are other, less expensive panels (Samsung T240) and the like, but I find it hard to recommend TN panels these days (unless on very tight budgets). I guess I have been spoiled by awesome VA and IPS panels, believe me: they are worth the premium over TNs (like the T240).

I will have to disagree.... TN is still the best (next to CRT) for fast phased games e.g. CSS, Quake series, Unreal Tournament series, Starcraft, L4D, driving games and loads more.
But in this case... an RPG game... which wouldn't rely much on your very fast and pin-point accurate aim-and-click/reaction.. so I would have to recommend the 2209WA :)

I have a Dell 2407WFP A04 and can't recommend non-TN monitors enough to anyone wanting to buy a monitor with wonderful colours for graphics stuff, photography, movies and casual gaming.

22" 1920x1080p monitors look odd to me. I've seen one set up in a shop. Really small text aswell. 1080p is only going to be a shade easier for you graphics card that 1920x1200. I would prefer a 1680x1050 22" screen to that one but then the main disadvantage would be you couldn't then watch HD video.

Your 8800GT is going to run a lot better at 1680x1050 than at 1920x1080/1200

on my 24" 1920x1080 the 8800gt worked fine for most games, just not at max settings..

TF2 and L4D were very playable, so was Company of Heroes, and I'm pretty fussy with fps

thanks again for the replies so if i did buy a 22" 1920x1080 i could still run it at 1680x1050 if i wanted too couldnt i to keep the resolution down im just finding it hard to find a non HD 22" with good reviews my budget is around the £150 range but less would be better

posted pretty much the same question a few days ago. got a 19" and a 8800GT 256Mb. want a 24" full HD monitor but cant afford new graphics aswell. i was told it would really struggle but i think i may give it a go and see. even if i have to use the 19" for games and the 24" for films just now.

If you did that the image wouldn't be sharp and would be slightly squashed vertically
