Hi I'm looking to get a new monitor to go with the pc I'm buying. The specs are as follows:

Asus p5n32-e sli+
Intel Core2Duo e6600 2.4ghz
Nvidia 8800gts
2gb 800mhz ddr2 ram (4x512mb)
Xfi Xtreme Gamer soundcard
Coolermaster realpower m520

I'm wanting to play cod2, cod4 and cod:modern warfare 2 when it comes out. I just read the sticky on native resolution for the different size monitors, and was wondering whether the above pc would be able to provide decent enough frame rates to run say a 22" monitor (1680*1050) or whether it would be better to go for a smaller monitor and run a more conservative resolution and thus better frame rates.

Budget is around £120 but am quite flexible if it's worth spending the extra doe.

my advice is get the best of the best monitor that you can get with your budget (probably add a bit more if you can), don't worry about your graphics card don't do too well, as an average person would upgrade the graphics card more often than the monitor.

but to answer your question, depends which 8800GTS you have, If you have the 512MB G92 one.. then you'd still get pretty awesome framerates.

well 1680 rez (22") screen would be good and with tht ghraphic card u can play all of thoes games acpet cod6 at max settings mabey low/medium for ok frames, as doiks said, ppl upgrade there card more than anything

As above the dell s2409 can be had for less than 150inc atm well worth a go at that price. Ordered 2 after weeks of lookin at diff monitors lol at this price I'm v tempted to order a third hehe

Yeh it is the 512mb 8800gts. Thanks for the help guys - Is the samsung T220 22" any good, or is it worth the extra to get the dell?

I have the t220 now, i got mine when it was £200, yeah its a very good screen but for the exstra £30 now, you can get 1 with an hdmi port and 1920 rez and thats the asus

The t220 isnt that great IMO. One of the worst monitors I've owned. The samsung panel one I had was average with poor build quality but the replacement was a terrible panel too. Both died very quickly though so luckily they are out of my life now.

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I would re-erect this one....

Im mainly wanting the monitor for gaming, and thought that the main thing to look for was response time. Therefore I am thinking about the Asus VH226H or the LG Flatron W2261V both around the £160 mark and both with 2ms response and HDMI.

The samsung mentioned is 5ms and no HDMI, and the dell mentioned is also 5ms and no longer at that bargain price of £150 :( ..... so am I correct in thinking either the Asus or LG would be better?

hahaha re-erect.. Oh lord.

Why do you need HDMI? Would DVI not be sufficient? It would be rather nice if more monitors had 2 * DVI/HDMI rather than bothering with VGA any more.

DVI and HDMI are identical for most intents and purposes, and are electrically compatible. However DVI does not carry audio over the same cable, which isn't a problem for most people.

lol glad u appreciated my terminology.

Ok I didnt realise that was the case that DVI and HDMI are basically the same.....Still I really dont know which monitor to get!?!? :S

The samsung t220 is high def or not?

if it can do 1920x1080 then it will do 1:1 for 1080i/p content yes... However it isn't as simple as that, there are plenty of monitors with lower resolutions that use clever circuitry (or using software on media players), to produce excellent quality downscaling. In effect you could have a monitor such as the 2209WA which has a sharper and better picture than one with a higher resolution.

It isn't *just* about resolution, to be honest it is sometimes a bit of a gimmick as far as I can see.

Depends what type of gamer you are.

Most of the advice you will get from this forum would coincide with getting 30-60fps, which is fine for Joe pub. On the other hand, if you're a competitive player you'll probably be looking for at least 125fps constant, and will need to be considering input lag, probably moreso than responce time.

Yeh I play competitively, and looking to play cod2,cod4,cod6 on 125 fps if possible. What things influence input lag then, what kind of specs should I look out for?
