I am looking into purchasing a 2nd monitor to go with my existing 27" DGM. I want to use one for sky/movies and one for gaming.

I can either run both off a new graphics card (waiting until June for a new one) or one off my laptop. What would you guys suggest as a new monitor? I feel like the DGM is sufficient for gaming so perhaps a widescreen for the movies etc?

Budget is flexible but nothing insane!

I just got a Dell U2515H to replace a U2913WM. It's excellent. Haven't missed the 21:9 ratio at all, I've got the same horizontal resolution in a smaller space and more vertical room.

Bargain for £270.

Depends on what you're powering it with I guess and what kind of games you play?

Well the DGM is fine for gaming so I was thinking a larger screen for movies would be better? I would also use it for work so having a widescreen would probably be beneficial for using Excel etc to have multiple spreadsheets open.

I do have an old 22" Dell which has been going donkeys years and I've always been happy with it, so perhaps something like the U2913WM would be good?

I've used the U2913WM extensively with Excel and SPSS, and I didn't find it a massive improvement over a normal 16:9 1080p monitor... because it's still 1080p.

It depends on what kind of spreadsheets you're working with I guess. I also didn't think it was too great for movies. The aspect ratio is better for films but the screen itself is too small. I really think that if ultrawide ticks your boxes, it's worth going for a 34" model instead (and 1440p at that).

So perhaps look at something like the U3415W?

I wouldn't use it that often for work but it's useful to have it when required. Main use will be movies/sky sports.

Truly in love with the thing. The office suite has never been as good and it really is like having two screens with a bezel in between. Immense.

Thanks for the feedback Ryan.

I am looking at the U3415W and giving it some serious thought. I've decided I also want to run my ps4 off the new monitor so having to take that into consideration now too!

I'm still to use my Xbox One with the monitor, shall give it a go now and report back. I believe they output in the maximum size they can and it just appears in the centre with black bars at the sides.

That is exactly what happens. You can select on the monitor between 21:9, 16:9, Auto and 1:1.

16:9 gives you the picture with the black bars, while 1:1 is a smaller version in the centre of the screen. 21:9 is a stretched version of 16:9.
