New MOT rules next year?

Surely this ECU thing is going put companies like Superchips out of business overnight? As that's pretty much their entire business.

I'll wait and see as there are so many variations depending on age of car, if it's an import or not.

As mattyfez says, custom cars etc don't have a standard ECU so how do they pass?

As long as the car falls within emissions targets, why would it matter?

MoT emissions test is for CO and HC, not for CO2.

But taxation is based on CO2 and 'therefore' if you've 'chipped' your car there's the possibility that it's putting out tons more CO2, and you're therefore 'getting away' with not paying enough car tax.
Essentially chipping your car, in someone or other's mind, is like killing the planet twice over and also stealing from the honest law abiding taxpayer.

You tend to find when VOSA inforce new rules they start it on cars from a certain model year as people who have modded their cars perfectly within the current rules have done nothing wrong. The new stricter rules will probably apply for cars 2010 onwards. Thats certainly how they have always done it up intil now.

Except when it came to front window tints for example.

Lets be sensible, front window tints are not a good idea, there's no argument.

Agreed.
But then neither is HID lamps in reflector lenses.
So I personally do hope they push it through.
I would hope "aftermarket HIDs" could be used with projector lenses - this combination, as long as correctly setup appear to work well.
But those bloody HIDs in reflector lenses - grrrrrrr

I think we need a way of clamping down on those crooks in the motor trade who do 'mates MOTs' for mates with unroadworthy cars.

There people should be stripped of the license to operate a test centre.

Oh, I don't disagree that crap tyres are a serious safety concern. I think the bar should be raised quite a long way. Trouble is, the knuckledraggers (thanks Fox) will go mental that they can no longer fit 14.99 tyres to their Corsas.
