Hi,

Im looking for a new motherboard to go with my intel q6600 and 4 gig ram. As per this thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=10599935#post10599935

The mobos im looking at are as follows -

pcspecbx8.jpg

(one of three, not 100% which one is best)
asus p5k (p35 chipset) premium wifi
asus p5e (x38 chipset)
asus p5k3 (p35 chipset)

It has also been suggested that i look at the abit ip35.

Can anyone suggest the best mobo to go for from the above choices, or indeed suggest any that i have missed. Also any known issues with any boards.

Thanks

Of those 3 motherboards, I would go for the Asus P5E....as it is the X38 chipset.....

Also have a look at the Gigabyte GA X38 DS5...which is basically the same as the X38 DQ6.

A very good P35 motherboard is the Gigabyte GA P35 DS3P, a number of nice features on this, also O/Cs well...I think it is very good value for money..or if you wish to spend a few more £s the Abit IP35 Pro.

I would forget about any DDR3 motherboards, it still is simply too expensive at the present time. :)

Yeah after a bit more reading i think i agree with you on the mobo front there. Asus P5E x38 looks really good and seems to be a good overclocker. going to add 4 gigs or geil blue dragon 800mhz ram and of course the q6600. I have now thought a little bit more about overclocking and am going to get a dual 120 rad and a swiftech waterblock to cool the cpu only.

Would i be better if im going to overclock more to get faster ram?

If your now coughing up for a X38 and watercooling, then you may as well get PC8500 ram to go with it, as you may be able to clock the q6600 further than on air. Also you may want to get one of the Penryns at some point before the Nehalems come out requiring a new MB and RAM, in which case fast RAM is a good idea.
