Hi guys,

Wifes PC is in dire need of an upgrade. Her use case is typically gaming, watching stuff, some video editing, general work/tasks.

Shes going a 3080, a good psu and all the SSDs etcetc.

I'm gonna be getting her a 9800x3d, 32gb DDR5 6000MHz, CAS 30-36-36-76.

Question is what motherboard?

She tends to keep her motherboard/cpu/ram a looooong time (I'm thinking she'll end up keeping it at least 5-6 years), until they bite the dust/become so old and slow they need to and I just hand her my old GPU when I upgrade every two generations.

In my basket I have a MSI x870E Gaming Plus. Is it really necessary for me to spend £230 on a motherboard for this system? What I want is bullet proof reliability, no issues I'm going to be getting phone calls about during the days and having to troubleshoot for her. She has 3 NVMEs and 2 SSDs. storage options are important.

I've not build an AMD system in about 20 years, all mine have been Intel. Any guidance on the motherboard side would be wonderful!

ow and as a side note, what Kinda cooling does a 9800x3d need?

Any and all input is super welcome, Thanks <3

X870 gives you usb 4 otherwise a b850 is enough for most and lots of options with 3x m2 slots but using all slots usually cause limitations on speed .

Gigabyte B850 Aorus Elite WIFI7 can be had for £190
.

Thermalright peerless assassin 120 for £30 is a solid cooling choice.
