New motherboard driver issue.

Apologies if this isn’t the correct place to post this.

Just finished a new build on a Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite WIFI7 (Socket AM5) DDR5 ATX Motherboard. I noticed I’m not getting the expected speeds through my ethernet connection.

Device manager is giving a code 28 for the network controller under other devices. I’ve tried updating the driver through windows, uninstalling the device and scanning for hardware changes.
I’ve downloaded and tried to install the Realtec LAN driver for windows 11 from https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X870-GAMING-X-WIFI7/support#support-dl-driver-lan.
But still have the issue. I’m a little stumped as to the next thing to try, so any advice would be greatly received.
Many thanks

28 is driver missing. Have you used the manual driver update mode and specified the path to the driver? Does the driver actually install? Sounds like it isn't installing if you've got 28.

I wouldn't update the BIOS to address a NIC issue as an immediate first step. Seems overkill but hard to say without seeing the device and driver status.

Update the BIOS. Update the chipset drivers.

I've updated both the BIOS and the chipset drivers and still have the issue.

Have you used the manual driver update mode and specified the path to the driver?
I'm going to say no. I just ran the .exe I downloaded from Gigabytes download page. It left a install log file but where it put the driver or what it's file name is, is a mystery to my meager skills.

In device manager, select the network adapter -> Details -> change property to Hardware IDs, then make a note of the first few characters, e.g. PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8125 (you can copy and paste)

Search in Google to find the correct driver from Realtek. Make sure you skip all the driver sites which require you to download a driver installation \ scan tool and go directly to Realtek

If the driver doesn't install, right-click and uninstall the device, removing the driver. Then in the top select "Actions" and "Scan for hardware"

There were some articles last week which you can no doubt Google, suggesting that only MSI boards give "True WiFi 7" speeds and the X870 boards by other brands were no faster than wifi6E.

If it is an eary adopter issue it might get addressed in future bios updates, unless it's board makers cheaping out on the hardware, which wouldn't surprise me.

No idea if this also affects LAN.

You say you have installed the windows 11 driver, are you running windows 11? The reason I ask is that I have come across a similar issue. You have to be running Windows 11 to support WiFi 6E upwards they are not supported on Windows 10. Other than that I have had no issues(Asus Prime X870-P Wifi).

Is it wanting the WIFI driver?

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X870-AORUS-ELITE-WIFI7/support#support-dl-driver-wlanbt

Also the driver page you linked is not your motherboard, but the driver looks to be the same.

You say you have installed the windows 11 driver, are you running windows 11?
Yes I am but not WIFI.

It probably was but running the .exe didn't install the driver and at the time it went in the didn't work pile.

So I copied and googled PCI\VEN_14C3&DEV_7925&SUBSYS_E112105B which after a few rabbit holes led me to Media Tek Wi-Fi 7 MT7925 Wireless LAN Card drivers.
Installed that and happy days, no more complaints from device manager. So a BIG thank you to you all for solving the driver issue.

Unfortunately I was hoping the missing driver had something to do with the slow speeds I'm experiencing through the Ethernet connection, but I'm still seeing speeds of less than 200mbps down and less than 10 up.
Plug my 10 year old rig back in and I get 900+ down and 100+ up. Any ideas what could be causing that?

This URL leads to the LAN driver - not WLAN. The Media Tek driver is listed under WLAN. W is for wireless.

Yes I am but not WIFI.

The WLAN driver won't change the throughout of the LAN NIC. What is the negotiated speed of the wired NIC? It may be on auto and incorrectly negotiating the speed.

Run this command in PowerShell: "Get-NetAdapter | select * | fl" without the speech marks and post it here.

Try reducing the speed of your LAN adapter to match your router, probably 1Gbps.

My guess is your router doesn't support 2.5Gbps.

The settings are in device manager.

The only setting that jumps out at me is "EEE Max Support Speed" which was set to "1.0 Gbps full Duplex"
So I changed it to "2.5 Gbps Full Duplex" and I'm getting 900+ down and 50 up. Up's a bit slow but I'm going to say "you sir are a star"
Thank you very much I think you nailed it.
