Hi,

I have just changed my motherboard from a p4c800-e delux to a 4CoreDual-VSTA.

Anyway, I used to be running 2 HDD's in RAID 0, is it possible to set it up so that they can run in RAID 0 on the new board without formatting?

Basically I dont want to download all *** updates and install everything again if I can help it. I seem to be having problems getting windows to load up.

Any ideas/suggestions?

You might have to format anyway...even if it wasnt set up in Raid 0... There is a common issue when switching motherboards of freezing on the blue login screen.

Unless the RAID chip is identical in the new motherboard, the new "RAID" is not the smae as the old one. RAID is not a disk-level thing, but a controller thing. You cannot move the controller if it is built into the motherboard so generally speaking, you cannot move RAID arrays if all you are doing is moving the disks. This is why most serious RAID arrays are built with dedicated removable controller cards.

Personally, mine is build with an XFX Revo64 card as a) it needs no drivers and b) I can move the card and drives to any other machine and it will work. OK, so it's not the fastest thing around but at least it's portable.

OK, guess its a complete reinstall then.

Wouldnt mind so much if it wernt for all the windows updates to download :(

Thanks :)

Aside from your RAID setup not working properly, its always best to format anyway when changing to a different motherboard. There are all sorts of device drivers that need changing and are a pain to do manually (if you can even boot all the way in to do it).

To reduce the hassle involved in formatting, keep all your data on a separate hard disk (preferable) or partition to the one where windows is installed.
