Hi folks,

going to plunge into a complete re-haul of my setup.

First of all i'm waiting to buy a 8800GT or GTS, then i will upgrade all.
I would like to know what is a really good mobo that allows me to have a quad CPU, fast memory, and lots of room for expansion?

I don't care about on-board sound as i have an Audigy 4 and i don't care about SLI.

Cheers :p

P35 based chipset for sure.

I'd go with either:

ASUS P5K-E/WiFi
ABIT IP35
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P

All can be had for around £80-90.

This one is around £100 cheaper:

I'm wondering if the difference is really noticeable?

Thats a good bundle too, Its only a dual core not a quad core so it depends on how long you'll keep it before upgrading again as more and more things each day are starting to utilise quad core processors.

You can of course try some overclocking on the processor and ram, it'll still be fast.

Peace :)

What about this halfway option?

[EDIT] as shauncr91 says if you overclock you'll need a better HS&F option, my personal recommendation is the Thermalright Ultima 90i + 120mm Noctua fan & some Arctic Silver 5 paste, but each to his own :)

Peace :)

thanks for all the replies!!

I think i'll go for:
- ABIT IP35 Pro (the normal IP35 seems to not have ESATA, i could could save £40 from going for this one alone)
- Quad Q6600

Just not too sure on the difference in performance between the two memory types:
the PC2-6400C4 against the PC2-8500C5

cheers again

If you plan to keep your overclock about 400FSB or below then the PC2-6400 is probably better for you and its cheap enough at the moment to buy another 2GB kit if you need or want it.

Peace :)

Really appreciate the help here. ;-)
Right, i'm going to take the plunge after a night's thought on it - i really want to get the best bang for the buck. So far (although it's pricey) I'm hooked on the first bundle for £381! :)
