Welcome to OcUK. CLAIMED! ;)

The Nvidia based boards are supposedly not so good with the quads as the Intel chipsets; though even with one of those nobody could guarantee you could 'easily' overclock a Q6600 to 3.6. Every chip is different, as well as the hardware used in conjunction with it (RAM etc). I'm sure someone with more Nvidia board experience will answer soon.

ive got a 680i and its a great motherboard, not tried overclocking my Q6600 as i dont need to yet, runs everything fine :)

i went for the EVGA version, and its been solid :)

680i boards arent good at overclocking quads.

Also i think you will struggle to hit 3.6 with that cpu cooler.

I think that the 790 series fares better in general with overclocking, but having not owned an nvidia board since the 570SLI, i cannot comment personally. These are generally more expensive that the 780, but i think if you want the best chance of overclocking then its probably your best bet. There seems to be mixed views on the 780 series - some people seem to have a lot of luck and others none, particularly with the asus striker series. There have been lots of failures with these boards, but again i think there have been people who have had a great deal of success.

The 680 is an old chipset, and its probably not worth considering unless you can find one for a low price. Rainmaker is probably right in that if you want the best chance of overclocking a quad, your better off with an intel chipset. However, i have heard that the EVGA *** series of boards are pretty good - the 750i *** gets a good review on xtreme systems, and seems to be fairly capable with quads. I think now there is a 780 ***, so that could be worth looking at. A lot of it comes down to budget - i think most people would agree that the 790 is the best overclocker, but it is pricier.

Your right about the memory - my mistake. There is more info on the 750 *** board here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=183632

This may be being picky, but it does have 6 phase power and is a better clocker than generic 750 boards, and other than supporting tri-sli seems to do pretty well with a quad on this thread. No idea of availability in the uk though. However, qwerty is right, the 780 is probably your best option.

EDIT: I have just noticed that the text filter blocks the abbreviation 'F T W' - sorry
