Just taken delivery of a new mountain bike to keep me active during the Corona isolation.

It's a Calibre Rail, it came semi built, I just had to attach handle bars and front tyres.

Took it round the block earlier and the front derailleur will not go up and down the gears, it just stays on cog 1.

Any ideas what to look for?

No there's a click but the chain doesn't move. Nope it's really right.
.

The click will just be the shifter locking as normal. What's really right? Or really tight, typo?

The derailleur should be able to move left and/or right by hand, just wobble it as it's spring tensioned.

If it's free moving with your hand, as mentioned above check the cable tension, it should be taught, unless you've clicked into lowest gear. Adjust shifter to whatever gear the chain is on, and check to see if taught.

Then report back :)

sounds like the nut that keeps the rear gear cable fastened to the derailleur is loose.
If you change (rear) gear an feel a click, can you see or feel the gear cable moving? if the cables moving and the derailleur isn't. its not tightened up on the derailleur properly.
