I've got an ipod 5th generation which I've had a long time and still use everyday and I'm quite happy with except for the fact that the battery can't hold charge very long and needs to be charged regularly. The other problem is that the 30GB storage isn't quite enough and it's always at capacity.

I've looked at getting the latest ipod classic 160 GB and they were nearly £200 which seemed an awful lot just to get a new battery and some extra storage space.
When I searched for MP3 players there didn't seem to be any non apple ones that were over about 8GB. There didn't seem to be an equivalent to the 30/60/160GB ipod classics.

I listen to a lot of podcasts which I subscribe to on itunes and then drag and drop on to the ipod. What alternative software is there where I can subscribe to podcasts and transfer them to an other device easily?

I'm not bothered about viewing pictures or videos on the device but a good battery life would be important. Good sound quality is also important (I use German Maestro gmp 8.35 d headphones at the moment).

Sansa Clip+ is untouchable up to about £100 in terms of sound quality, but its very much no frills - plays music and thats it - you may also need an external amp depending on the impedance of the GMPs. Beyond that budget, take a look at the Cowan range - J3/D2 specifically.

The Cowan J3 looks good for its sound quality and battery life but it says on the product page that it's not compatible with Windows 7 64 bit. Does anyone have any experience using the J3 with windows 7 64 bit?

I've used my j3 via drag and drop and cant say I've had any problems, dont know if jet audio is compatible though as I never tried it.

Another J3 owner here, using it no problems with Windows 8.1 x64

Excellent player, but I only tend to use it when I don't have access to the internet now due to Google music having everything there for me instantly. Still the J3 sounds way better than any other device I own.
