Card runs perfectly normal w/ great temps no hitching in games, but there's this bizarre and incredibly annoying issue where if I connect or disconnect a display (such as an hp reverb g2), apply monitor position settings in the multiple display tab in nvidia control panel or even when arriving at the login screen for windows, the whole system will freeze for around 30 or more seconds and then resume normal function (until another display is connected or disconnected again etc.).
Upgraded from a 2080ti. Did DDU in safe mode, even reinstalled windows and the problems still there. Driver and mobo BIOS are all up to date.

Win10
MSI MEG ACE Z790
32GB Corsair Vengeance Ram 2x16GB
14900k
MSI RTX 4080 Super Suprim X
1200W bequiet! Dark Power Pro

Never had this issue with the 2080ti or anything else and updating to the new nvidia driver that came out today of course did not fix it so I'm basically stumped. Any ideas?

Have you had a look in event viewer?

Are you running anything that interferes with the driver, like hardware monitoring or motherboard software like dragon center?

MSI afterburner/iCUE but no dragon center. Never used event viewer before. In any case, the problem appears to have disappeared after I unplugged all connected displays except for my primary monitor, then plugged each one back in one at a time. After that, connecting and disconnecting my vr headset no longer causes a massive freeze/lockup, so I take it the problems dealt with, as far as I can tell. How strange!
