I got my 660 ti MSI card last week and for two days or so it was awesome, but recently (and proberbly due to new forceware)it has now dropped clock speeds, so when I go into a game it seems to drop to 500 mhz when it should be running at 1020 mhz, its like the power scaling on my new msi card has gone crazy and only runs at full speed on the desktop, but when I go into full screen it falls back to slow speeds. I've tried nots of different drivers but I get the same crappy 500 mhz performance which is actually slower than the card it replaced.

Has my card developed some kind of fault through forceware ?

Is there software that can check if an nvidia gfx card is fully functional ?

What determines the speed at which is scales mhz?

Any advice = appriciated!

Sounds like software issues, try using driver sweeper and then get the latest drivers :)

Have you got AB installed to monitor and change the clock speeds?

And is the card operating under normal temperatures?

Many thanks

Ok gonna wipe all drivers and start again, but i was able to try the card in another rig (Replacing its 8800 gtx) and it was doing the same thing.

I'll try cleaning all drivers and then the driver cleaner and then the latest rdrivers again. I havn't got AB installed and have been monitoring by gpuz and gpu observer.

I'll do the above and let you know how I get on! but because this happens in the other rig I think there is something wrong with the card.

P.S the card is now idling at 42 C
on the desktop and is running at 1019 mhz, which it would stay like that when I go in game!

It should 'Kick in' on full clocks as soon as you start gaming. I always Alt + Tab out of games to see what clock speeds are at with Precision X. It deffo sounds like driver issues and like Clee, I would do a complete clean and reinstall of drivers and use 304.79 as these seem to be the best for the 660TI.

Yeah my other cards kick in a full speed when gaming but for th e last few days the 660 ti is doing that in reverse. I've just uninstalled latest drivervs removed old backups of drivers and run driversweeper, rebooted ad will now try the 304.79's cheers.

It's now saying there is no compatible hardware found, upon installing drivers.

in Device manager the card shows up as a standard VGA graphics adaptor.

:O

Update : the alatest driver is installing, but the 304.79 say therei is no compatible hardware = how odd ?

i managed to get the latest drivers, ran battlefield and its doing the same thing and scaling down to 524 mhz whilst in game, the gpu is maxed out at 99% at that speed and as a result the card is now only at 45 degrees at full load.. :( and when i do play it feels like its constantly changing speeds and the game slows as a result.

Using new AX750 modular psu which is actually a seasonic! and powers my previous 285 with no issues.
I have two other S12 seasonic psu too, and I tried the card in another my other rig and saw the same results.

-trying the clean install option under custom now!
:(

Maybe a dud card. Hope not though as damned annoying. PSU is fine btw.

Thanks

- yes it was recognized, but was doing the same thing with the 3D performance when in games, I will try the card again in my q6600 system. It's odd as the 304.79 drivers say they cant find the hardware.

update - I've moved the card to the Q6600 system and it's doing the same thing again, I do belive the card is capable at running at 1020mhz but it seems as tho it's developed a fault with its scaling.

What should I do? send it back to OCUK or do I RMA with manufacturer ?

Any help apprciated.

OcUK, you'll get a refund on postage and a new one within a few days presuming it's found faulty. Make sure that you can easily recreate the problem in another machine :)

Hey I had a lot of problems with mine at first when I upgraded from the cd drivers to the latest ones.

I fixed it by deleting all the drivers and doing a fresh install with the latest 305 driver.

Also I can confirm the 304.79 driver wouldn't detect on mine either.

I think your card will be fine with a fresh install with the latest drivers because mine is running smooth as butter now and it was running like turd for the first couple of days.

Many thanks!

Ok So before I Return It I'll try one last removal and cd driver install.

Ahh no I went straight for the latest drivers when I got the card I didn't use the drivers on the disk

I never checked the clock speed on mine when it was playing up but that explain a few things like on saints row 3 I was getting very low choppy frame rate and at one point windows index rating give me a 6.4.

Also a lot of games were crashing on me but it's definitely working perfectly now but it did take a few reinstalls of drivers and windows and a lot of messing about so I would try out some more stuff before you send it back as faulty.

I've tried it in two pcs and it gives me the same results, clock speed is fluctuating around the 500 mhz mark when 3Dgaming. and its really slow :(

I've tried clean installs on both rigs and this hasn't helped.
