New MSN has slowed my PC down to a crawl, HELP!

I've installed a pukka version of MSN 8 (live) after I was sent an invite by a friend. I checked it out before installing and know its not one of the earlier virus riddled versions.

However after installing it the system went on a go slow. As I'm typing this the characters are taking a fraction longer than usual and general www browsing is painfully slow. I uninstalled MSN and even did a system restore but its still slow. Opening pages take more time than dialup!

Is there a known way to fix this?

Please help, I can't afford to reinstall everything at the moment :(

Used to happen very often with me, used to look in task manager and loads of mem was taken, it has taken 1gb to itself once. Restart of MSN did help it, but not for very long.

Newest one is fine for me now :)(and has a new skin :))

Memory leak, have you got version 8.0.0.562?

The version before 8.0.0.562 has a massive memory leak with me.

Craig.

Its version 8.0.0.565

Have you restarted your PC after uninstalling MSN?

I just kill the process if it does happen (rarely) and restart MSN. Fixes it for me. Can't wait until they get out of Beta!

I've tried that but it still the same :(

The process isnt using much memory however when I look at the usage stats its 500MB odd but usually only around the 200-250MB mark!

The symtoms are just like a memory leak. When I open anything, especially web browsers etc, its takes an age for the task bar to draw the icon etc. Also the mouse is slower. Not loads but kind of like if you were running in an interlaced video mode, so it flickers as you move it, but only slightly!!

OK, I've checked and its not a memory leak as far as I can tell. When I open firefox the CPU goes to 100%. It also does this when I try to do anything web related. Does the new MSN inteface with the web borwser in some way? Wondering if the original installation corrupted?

Update.

It turns out vsmon.exe was hammering the CPU. I shutdown Zonealarm and the PC runs as it did! Must have been a problem with the MSN 8 install that somehow messed up Zonealarm. Will reinstall it and see what happens.
