Hey guys i am building a PC for video editing and dual booting as a back up PC what do you think of these specs; is every thing compatible?

Is the CPU "core 2" or what? Good enough for video / rending / transcoding / some mid-level gaming

I have an old Abit IN932 Max motherboard the sound port is broken but i got a sound card and the chip set drivers can be problematic. Not sure if anything is broke. Do you think i can use this or should i just get a new one?

Is this PSU good enough to overclock the CPU?

The parts i am getting:
Processor - Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6500 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.93GHz 1066FSB
RAM - OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9
GPU - OcUK GeForce GT 430 1024MB GDDR3 Low Profile PCI-Express
CASE - Antec 200 Two Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
PSU - OCZ StealthXStream 2 500W Power Supply

The system requirements:
Sony Vegas Pro - http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro/techspecs

Avid Media Composer - http://www.avid.com/US/products/media-composer-software/system-requirements

Thanks for the help people!

That case looks really nice ill be getting that! But i would like a slightly more powerful PSU; i would be using that to power a 460 / quad core / 8GB RAM / Raptor HDD in my "main" PC and swapping that PSU into the "media" one since the PSU fan makes an annoying noise.

OK, but does it doesn't have the two pci cards to power it; i would rather not use adapters; do you have another recommendation in the same price range? Thanks

If you would like a spec I need to know a few things,

Is the core 2 duo cpu already owned? if your hoping to re-use your old motherboard? i think its time to buy a newer socket tech than LGA775.

whats the budget?

do you just want a tower base unit, without the OS/keyboard/mouse/speakers/monitor?

Assuming just a base unit? with harddrive and optical drive too.

there is this.

If you dont want to use a simple molex to pci-e adaptor that comes with the GTX460 anyway.

or you can save £30 by using an adaptor,

Sorry i should have given more details:

- Budget: £300. Or just what i need to spend and not a penny more. I would like to stick with 775 since my other PC uses that, this way i can swap around or trouble shoot if need be and keep it cheap. If i get newer I might as well buy a "proper new PC" for about £1000 and use my now "main" PC as the multi-media one if that makes sense!

- I have HDDS, keybord, mouse, screen etc

- I may just buy a new MB and avoid an hassle with it

- I don't own the CPU, i want one powerful enough for the video specs but nothing more expensive; i can always over clock; especially with that case's airflow

I hear what your saying about wanting to trouble shoot with your existing parts, but buying old tech like that socket these days is shooting yourself in the foot.

you want to do video editing that will make use of more cores, and mid level gaming.

this is about as cheap as it gets.

review of the CPU here - http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2010/06/24/intel-pentium-g6950-cpu-review/1 which uses a newer Socket1156 so the best CPU you can put in at the momet is a i7 8** series cpu which is a quad core with hyperthreading chip,

Hi mate; thank you very much for your quick replies. That spec looks. I am thinking of may be buying an new "main" pc new; since it would cost about £700 as opposed to the £1000 i thought; (down grading from triple channel to dual and i7 to i5) and then using my existing PC as the video-rig which would kill any video stuff i would do; ill have a think and post the new specs if i go down that road; thanks again
