There's enough threads about old stuff everyone's listening to....in the interests of discovering new stuff, how about a thread for your pick of the new releases.

This week, I'm listening to :

Daphni - Cherry - Latest album from Dan Snaith's (Caribou) side project.

Scone Cash Players - Brooklyn to Brooklyn - I'm an absolute sucker for modern soul and everything on Daptone Records, this is another gem.

Makaya McCraven - In These Times - Hard to put in a genre, kinda jazz/electronic/hip-hop sounds, think BadBadNotGood. Very good either way.

'Alvvays - Blue Rev' out today.

Canadian indie pop/dream pop band who are my go-to artist when I just want to chill out. :)

This year

Ghost - 2022 Impera
Volbeat - 2021 Servant Of The Mind
Cats In Space - 2022 Kickstart The Sun
Megadeth - 2022 The Sick The Dying And The Dead
The Hu - 2022 Rumble Of Thunder
Flogging Molly - 2022 Anthem
Dropkick Murphys - 2022 This Machine Still Kills Fascists

This week's new releases, I'm having a listen to :

Kutiman - Open - An Israeli artist I got into during lockdown with his excellent ambient album Surface Currents (that I still work to a lot of the time). Really enjoying this more traditional soulful blues rock sound.

Booka Shake - Contour EP - Love a bit of booka!

Rival Consoles - Now Is - Not listened to this guy before, interesting electronic sounds, just showed up on my Tidal recommendations, digging it so far.

I'll keep digging throughout the day...

Booka Shade :P I'll have to check that out, love Rival Consoles too

Not sure about 'new' albums but stuff I'm enjoying from this year:

Nova Twins - Supernova. This is such a fun album, female duo playing rock/punk/metal style.
Metric - Formentera
Everything Everything - Raw Data Feel. Didn't like their last album but this is much better.
Ghost - Impera
Porcupine Tree - Closure/Continuation. Back and as brilliant as ever.
The Algorithm - Data Renaissance. Glitchy electronic awesomeness
Rammstein - Zeit. Maybe their best album yet, love this one.
Zeal & Ardor - Self titled.

Nothing More - Spirits

I've been waiting 5 years for their new album. Unfortunately like all artists nowadays, releasing so many of singles early takes the shine off when the album is released but still exciting to listen to it, very loudly.

Some other mentions of albums I've enjoyed this year:

Bad Omens - The Death of Peace of Mind (LOVED it)
I Prevail - True Power
Rammstein - Zeit (agreed @Shamikebab)
Alexisonfire - Otherness
Papa Roach - Ego Trip
Three Days Grace - Explosions

And some that I looked forward to and were very disappointed:

Shinedown - Planet Zero
Slipknot - The End, So Far

I'm surprised Slipknot are still going. Haven't a fair few of their members passed away now. Certainly hard to replicate Joey Jordinson.

$oul $old $eparately - Freddie Gibbs. Has been my most recent listening. Decent Hip Hop album and probably one of my favourite of the year so far (though I believe that goes to Danger Mouse & Black Thought's album)

To be fair Weinberg who replaced Jordinson is a really good drummer, Paul Gray died 12 years ago. I need to give it more listens to be fair, but the first time hearing was disappointing. The last album, We are not your Kind I really liked.

I don't really listen to them much any more. I'll put on songs I liked from them when I was really into the genre but I haven't heard any of their new stuff.

JJ was phenomenal though. I'm sure I have my disasterpieces dvd somewhere. Used to love the part when he would basically drum upside down

Yeah I have that DVD downstairs, I need to put it on for the kids :D Iowa is one of my all-time favourite albums, that set a benchmark that would never be bettered.

This week, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Cool it Down has caught my ear. Strips back their earlier punky bombast into a shimmering, layered album that is as much dream pop as indie rock. Also Padkarosda - Sötét Végek, a Hungarian outfit I spotted on Bandcamp Friday and insta-bought all of their albums. Somewhere between darkwave, punk and post-punk - tinges of the '80s French punk band Bérurier Noir. Vocals are native.

Across the year, these are my five favourite releases:

And some others I've particularly enjoyed:

Been too busy to have a proper dig, but just checking the releases list these are now queued :

Bibio - BIB10

Burial - Streetlands EP

Arctic Monkeys - The Car

Dry Cleaning - Stumpwork

Loyle Carner - Hugo

Busy again this week.....current new releases I'm listening to though :

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Changes

Olafur Arnalds - Some Kind Of Peace - Piano Reworks

Let's Eat Grandma - The ******* Son & The Devil Himself

Some belters this week :

Sault - 11

Sault are just bloody amazing, mix of soul, hip-hop, disco. They're amazingly prolific as well, and actually dropped 5 albums in the last week. 11, Earth, Today & Tomorrow, Air and Untitled(God). Thankfully the vinyl release is a way off so I don't have to buy them all now :P

Redcar - les adorables etoiles (prologue)

The latest incarnation of Héloïse Adélaïde (Christine & The Queens). Bloody ace. Really need to see him live.

That's a blast from the past, I think I last listened to him on which ever album the song Eon was on, years ago. I assume it's still similar stuff?
Yeah pretty much, he's had a few albums since then. End of an Empire was the follow-up to that one and then he had a sort of stripped down electronic album called Outworld.

He also restarted his first project Circle of Dust which is heavier with 'Machines of Our Disgrace' which is a great album.

I'll check them out, cheers.

I remember listening to Blue Stahli at the same time, I'm not sure if you've heard of him but check them out if not.
