For someone who doesn't listen to the radio and doesn't connect with the current charts (old man yelling at clouds :D)
A few years back You Tube was really good at suggesting songs quite similar to what you are listening to, these days the suggestions are just full of watched videos, spotify seems to suggest the artists that are already in my playlists, some of their suggested playlists are ok but its still heavily weighted to those artist i already listen to.

There must be plenty of stuff being released that doesn't chart that is worth a listen to

Spotify discover weekly and release radar also random song selections at the end of my playlists if I turn it on, usually have 10-20 new songs a week I like.

ah good shout id missed that feature!.. its still offering artist that are well well listened to by myself (pink floyd / fleetwood mac!?) but seems there are a few good suggestions that i've not heard so far :D

Yeah worst thing about Spotify for me is how their shuffle system works and also the current pricing - not as random as it should be as it's always got recency bias built in, for what you've been heavily listening to.
